TllK FATA li Til 1UTKEN ISRASUNS. There are some solid reasons why D P Thompson should not be elected governor anil, singularly enough, they number the fatal fisure of thirteen : l. He is Interested in the Willamette Locks Comnanv, which will try to sell the locks at Oregon City at the next session of the legislature to the state at an enormous figure. Thompson will thus make up for the "sack" he Intends to sink in the present campaign. Aa Invincible evidence of the above scheme, it is only necessary to scan the facts that several parties interested In the Electric Light Works at Oiegon City (Xamelv. Morer. Eastham. Cross and others,) are now candidates for the legisla ture, and that the Electric Light Company spent about $15,000 in carrying the pri maries at Portland for Thompson. It is stated by good authority that they have contributed the further aum oi $10,000 for a campaign fund. 2. Thompson has boasted that he will spend $100,000 to secure his election and thwart the will of the people. 3. He favors Chinese as his record shows; two months ago he opposed, em- phatl:allv, a discusion ol the question of removing the Chinese from Second street, one of the best streets In the city of Port land, which is now practically ruined by the filth of the Chinese and is a menace to the lives of herclilzenr by the frequent brawls of the hiirhblnders. Also when in the legislature he voted against the mem orlal 10 congress for the abrogation of the Burlingame treaty. 4. Thompson , while receive at Weid- ler's M II reduced the wages ot the env ployes on in average of thirty cents a day and at the same time asked $30,000 for his own services as receiver, as the records of the supreme court show. 5. He voted for the bill exempting wa ter bonds from taxation "six times. These bond, if exempted from taxation would allow Thompson and his kind fcctually to escape all taxation; on '.he other hand, if not exempt, they will be sold outside of the state, and will therefore bring so much extra capital into the state. 6. lie owns seventeen banks and cinches the borrowers in a two per cent pet month s'.vlc; furthermore If elected he would stuff his seventeen banks with the funds of the state treasury, and make the people pay hlin Interest on their own money. 7. Thompson while mayor of Portland had'an ordinancepassed cxtendingtnc wharf limits in front of his own property oull nto the river, thereby Increasing the value to the extent of $100,000 without payin g the citv one cent of compensation. (This is an example of how he regards a public trust.) S. He is one of the richest men in the ttate of Oregon, yet he only gave $to to the Johnstown sufferers, and he has never contributed a cent towards helping any enterprise for the Interest of the state. 9. He laid the foundation for his present immense fortune by his surveying con tracts, which he was wont to fulfill at the rate of some twenty miles a day on horse back, as some of the surveyors of this state have repeatedly slated. 10. He promised to raise the monev to relieve the Holladiy "estate, at Portland, for a bonus of $.0,000 and then received from the Bennet-L.1r.1bee syndicate $.0, 000 in order to allow them to obtain the property at about one-tiflh of its real value. 11. 1L' shows his ability and dignity ol character to properly till the exalted pwsi lion of governor by his speech accepting the nomination when he said Tll gel there, and don't you forget it." 12. He is owner of the electric system that r.ow furnishes light for the state, and at the last session of the legislature he tried to tell the system to the slate at three times lis Ailual vaiue. 13. Thompson, w bile one of the wealth leal men In the state. Is one of the most artful do.lgers of taxes. A list of ills real and personal property in Multnomah county at a low valuation foots $1,159,200 which was assessed in 1SS9 at $171,001. and this was reduced by $54,000 indebtedness claimed by Tnonipsoii and $500 exemp. ion, leaving the total of taxable properly re turned by him Jl3'.ooo as against an act ual value of ; 1, 159.201. This Is the man ;K A Miller was one of the courageous mem bers of the legislature who stood up maniuiiy and helped sustain the governor's veto of the non taxable bond water bill. Endorse him by giving him your vote for congress. Wm M Townscnd for secretary of Slate, G W Webb for state treasurer, 1!
