Prof. Condit, Kev Prichard and Wm Fortmiller returned last evening from attendance on the nresbvtorv at Portland. Important action was taken in referenco to the college hero. Recommendations were niado that the instituto be maintained as a high rate academy, that eight of the thirteen directors lie elected from Linn county; that three-fourths of the college campus be sold and the proceeds Ue inane an irrcdticalile fund. If this is done it would create for the college a fund of nearly $25,000, as the three blocks sold arc, or will lie, worth at least $8,000 a block, and a larger rate could probably lie obtained for several of the corner lots. The attendance the past year was 132, being tho largest in tho history of the college. A Bio Assortment. The democratic nominations lor the different county offices seem to give gc& eral satisfaction among the democrats, We have heard but little complaint. The nomination of l)r J F Henry for representative bv the democrats is one that meets with universal satisfaction by that party and many republicans in this section of the county. Dr Henry is cer tainlv a competent man and one on whom the people can depend. We pre dict a large .vote lor Mr Henry. limes. Had to Invest. Mr. II S Crlsman's new 5 and 10 cent store, just opened In the McFarland block, Is already attracting considerable attention, people who visit the store being astonished at the things that can be sola lor such small prices, articles selling for 10 and 15 cents, usually costing twice as much and sometimes more. A Democrat man who visited the store, out of curiosity, left with five pack ages that cost only 55 cents, one alor.e, a box of handy snap pants buttons being worth that sum in a case of emergency. In less than five minutes the Democrat had several buttons In places sadly needed at electric speed. You should visit the store, If only to see what can be bought for small sum. More valuable articles 01 course can be had; but all at the same re markably low prices. Contract Let. Yesterday, in Salem, tho contract for building a bridge at Jeff erson was let to Hoffman A Bates for 11,800, and the Linn county court issued an order that tins county pay half of the amount. The county judge and commissioners returned on the even ing train from a joint meeting with the commissioners of Marion county. The Corvnllis school house cost com plete 20,000. We understand that the Allmnv building was built for 12,000. That is a very good school house for us. West Side. Permit us to make a correction. The Albany school house cost almost, if not quite, $30,000, the contract price for the building, without many improvements mndo lieside, being over $f,uuu. Skwino.
