The DKMOtUAT is very jjlad to see lha Salem people arc learning the value of i:s li & L astoclation and that they arcbcj nlny to understand i's workings, though the above remark sounds funny to those who remember what the Staiesman said when the bidding was only ul:out I'i'1 teen months in advance. Astoria. -One of the best and cheap eft additions that have lately been put upon the market in Astoria was the Railway addition which was laid out by the Astoria Real Kstato and Trust Co, of Portland. In four weeks from the Lime that this proper. ty was at first offered for sale every lot had been sold and still there was a demand for them. Some fifty lots wercold to Albany parties and others came too late to obtain any. Uwing to tiie extraordinary uemanu for this most desirable nrowertv, the owners have laid out an extension to this addition and have set aside one block only for Al banv- That this is most desirableproperty can be at once seen by referring to the record of the Railway addition which ad joins it. These lots lay within one mile and a quarter from the center of Mie city and cant be beat in price or location in Albany to-day, ror prices and terms see another column. A Corvallis paper says: Albany suffered to a great extent, though the damage as yet can not, of course, be estimated. Albany did not suffer to a great extent, in fact, very li'.tle. Also The only town in the Willamette valley located on a stream of any sie that was not damaged to some extent by the noou was Corvallis. The toss of Mary's biidgc alone was ten limes the loss to Albany. Also Notwithstanding the water was very high nore, our eieciric iignts Duriiea as origin- ly as ever, when at its highest, lhis is another thing that no other town along the river can say. Albany's lights did not stop at all, and two of them give as much light as the whole system of their city. COUNCIL PKOCKKDINGS. Tuesday evening, Feb. nih. On several occasions news reached the city thatlthe splendid structure nad gone out, which, if true, would have been a cool loss of almost $20,0(0 to Marion county and the citizens of Stayton. Salem Journal. If the Democrat remembers correctly Linn county owns half of the bridge, and in case of loss would lose about as much as Marion county. Tata) $28,915 COUVALI.I A Close Call. Hon.
