Last Saturday Kate Fennel!, the fifteen year old daughter of Mrs. Kennell, pro prietor ot iiie Pioneer boardiini house, of Ibis city, went across the river to the home of Mr. William Collins, about three miles west of Albany, to spend Sabbath. Vcs teiday morning about 10 o'clock Kate was In a room with Mrs. Collins, when she picked up a gun that was standing in the corner of the room and asked Mrs. Collins If she could snap it. Mrs. Collins re marked: "Yes, as it Is not loaded." or mcthhig to that effect. Kale Ihereanon cocked it and pulled one of triggers just as the barrels were in line with Mrs, Collins. The hammer struck a cartridge of nowdcr and shot. The contents went straight for Mrs. Collins' heart and she fell from the chair in which she was sitting, tD the door 1 a corpse. The gun was being handled carelessly without legard to where it was pointed and unfortunately it was towards Mr. Collins. It was double barrelled: one charge had been fired and Mrs. Collins supposed both had. Miss Kennell and the family were horror stnkcn at the sudden calamity, and relatives and neighbors were sent lor. A coroner s jury was called and found that the deceased come to her death from an accidental shot at the hands of Kate r'ennell. The body of the unfurtun. ate woman was brought to this city and taken to the residence of her brother -in-law, Mr. Peter Riley. The father of the deceased, Mr. Thos." Hunt, of Gervais, was telegraphed for, and arrived on the even ing train, and this noon the deceased was taken to her old home at Uervais, near which she was born, Mr. Hunt being a pio neer of '47, where her remains were laid to rest. The deceased leaves a husband, Mr. Wil liam Collins, and three children. She was thirty-six years of age, was a member of the Catholic church, wis a kind wife and mother and highly respected by all who knew her. Her sudden death was a great shock to the family and relatives, and they have the sympathy of the public in their sad bereavement. M r. rcsl. I.0N1; I-'am..
