Angina pectoria (agony of the chest) carries
off many people, the last of whom, according
the newspapers, was the novelist, the Rev.
P. Roe, who expired in one day because of
its crushing anguish. Major-General George B.
McClellan (according to the published reports
of that time) likewise succumbed, after twenty-
four hours of uncontrollable pain. Just how
these patients were treated I am unable to say
but Dr, Richardson of London, long before
General McClcllan's death.had received a prize
of 25,000 francs from the Academy of Medicine
in Paris for having discovered an almost infalli
ble remedy for agina pectoris by the administra
tion, in small doses of I-Ico to I-25 of a grain,
of nitro-glycerine! This discovery entitles Dr,
Richardson tc the never ending gratitude of
every suflering man, woman or child afflicted
ith angina pectoris.
I know a number of persons who always
carry tablets of nitro-glycerine with them, and
am equally certain thatali these people.by the
use of nitro-glycerine, are living in comparative
comfort, who would otherwise have fallen un
der the unsupportable torture of that form of
heart neuralgia, the most dreadful of all pains.

Read.no, Penn.t Jan. 10. There is mourn

to-day. The pall of deaths hangs over the city.
Fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, relatives

last night. Over one hundred spirits are hush
ed forever in death, as the result of the wreck
and run wrought in this city in darkness, which
was relieved subsequently by electric lights and

The committee appointed to confer with Mr.
Hunt regarding the route he desired to enter
the city, reported having met him strongly in
favor ol having the road pass through Alta
street, as other routes presented many engineer
ing difficulties and great expense. In view of
the fact of opposition on the part of some of the
cu-zens 01 renuieion to tne roaa coming
through Alta street, he would send a party of
locating engineers to survey the other routes
proposed. Over 95000 was pledged by those
attending the meeting toward the subsidy un
conditionally, and it will be no trouble to raise
the lull amount required when final disposition
of the proposed route is made. Pandleton reali
zes it must have the road.
