Logan of Portlund.has institu ted proceedings in the circuit court here for the purpose of recovering a number of certificates of sale to 3200 acres of school land situated in Marlon, Lane and Linn counties. The defendant in the case is W. L. Brewster of Apple ton, Wis., administrator of the estate of George Baldwin, deceased.and Edwin Schwart, to whom 480 acres of the timber land was previous trans ferred by Brewster. In the Couer d'Alene Indian reservation there are 290,000 acres and in Spokane lands 50,- uuo acres, making in all 701,437 acres. Died at Palo Alta. A dispatch received this morning from Palo Alta, from Mrs. Leo Roller, told f the death of his father, Mr. Peter Y. Dun;un, after an illness of six months. The deceased was a former Albany man, and Mr. Duncan was formerly Miss Ida Knox of this city. The deceased was a man of excellent character and leaves many old friends here who will regret his death.
