Mrs. Hush's Cask. Mid. Hush, of this
city, who was Uiken before Jud;e Waham
at Kugenc City for selling liquor without a
license was held to appear before Judge
Deady ut Portland next Tuesday. Three
or four Albany men were ubK)enaed as
witnesses, not much to their good taste, and
one of them, a young man was held under
ioo bonus to appear at the I'ortlanu trial.
As he could not furnish them ho slept ia
the I. lint county jail. A married man is
alsosaid to be mixed up in the matter ;
nut we u i a not learn the names ol any of
the witnesses but one.
Towards Orkuox. Reports from Cali
fornia Indicate that things have fallen
rather flat. The prospects of a wheat crop
arc very poor and maay are discouraged.
A man traveling through the State saw
twenty teams headed for Oregon. In
Southern California the boom has fairly
burst to pieces. One man ho paid $5000
for a I-os AngeCes lot has just been offerd
only about $i$o for it. Discouraged peo
ple have their eyes towards Oregon, and it
behooves us to be ready. We want no
soap suds boom though,
Dividku. The voters of District 24 are
completely divided on the question of a
new school house. Mr. Cooper Turner
informs a Dk.mocrat man that they have
already voted two school houses by a
scratch, the last time the first of the week,
but eacli time some mistake was made and
another meeting will now be called when it
is proposed to vote for another. That will
make three, hut ealr one will be built.
Considerable feeling is said to hayt arisen
ut of the matter.
1 A Vkrmion. It is now claimed by
some that young Miller killed Wright a".
the Bay in self defense, it being 'ald tha1
the Wright boy first attacked the Miller
hoy, giving him a black eye. That the
Miller boy had carried the knife two
years, ltcfore the case is tried it will be
reported that Wright committed suicide.
Nkii.h Electricity. A larja nambor of
men who should have been at the Board of
Trade meeting last oight wore absent, and
the meeting was net as entbusiastiu aa i'
should have been. There was hardly the
saap that makes Boards 01 Trade; it is to be
hoped though, a battery will lie put nnder
the affair and lata of olecti icity put into it.

sentatlan of the departments of work ln
ducted by the Woman's Christian Unlsn
and although these departments are num
erous, and because of their variety almost
perplexing, yet, ufter having listened with
marked attention to the various merits of
them all, we could not have determined,
which one was to be prefered, in point of
supremacy, the excellency of the whole
being the firm foundation upon which
they are founded. The address was re
ceived with profound attention, and at its
close Mrs. Edwards made a stirring ap
peal for a collection, which proved a sue.
cess. '
The exercises closed with music and the
benediction.
