Tho facts upon which the suit Is based are as follows: Edward Rorllnc, of Frccport, W. T filed a declaratory statement on the southeast quarter of a certain section of government land November 13, 1881, and relinquished his cLiim to the said quarter section Octolicr aa, 168a. From this piece of land 800,000 feet of logs were cut and sold to the I'orttand lumbering compa ny. As Rorllne is not responsible, financially, it wat deemed best to hold the lumbering corn tony responsible for the value of the timber. In the compUlnt it is alleged that Dorllne filed the declaratory statement simply for the purpose of defrauding the government out of the timber on the land. Suit Is therefore brought to recover the value at the rate of $6 50 per thousand feet We have received a note from S. Hudson, at the south fork of the Sixes river, in which he says: "After an absence of nearly two yean, on revisiting this pkicc I find the miner busy at work in their claims. I visited Iho gra.c of Thomas Jenkins, who died here on the 4th of February last and was buned amidst tlicse lofty and rugged mountains. Thomas Wilson has placed a nice paling around the grave, to mark the final resting place of the mortal remains of his friend and partner. At the head of the grave two small tree liave been planted, one on each tide of the head-board, and they are green nnd growing nicely. There wa also there a beautiful bouquet of flower, presented by Mn, G, II. Gucrrinof Ecklcy, and a car pet of green velvet grass covers the red soil of the grave." The Oregonlvn says order have been promul gated from the war department nt Washington relieving Capt. Charles F. Itowcil. Major Jones, who succeed him, is now stationed at San Francisco.
