OREGON PAGE EIGHT Comet»-IV to Meet On Gridiron Friday The Comets of Crater High will return to their home field Fri day evening, October 14, to host Illinois Valley in a Rogue League contest. Game time has been set at 8 p.m. on the Junior High field. Illinois Valley is currently holding down the bottom rung of the league ladder with two defeats at the hands of Phoenix and Eagle Point. Crater last weekend dropped their first league tussle to Phoenix. Pointers to Face McLaughlin Saturday Spirit is running at a high pitch among squad members of Central Point Junior High foot ball squad in preparation for the tangle with McLaughlin Junior High of Medford on Saturday. The game will be played in Medford at 10 a.m. Saturday. Coach Bill Esselstyn said that the Pointers are shaping up and are looking forward to this tus sle. f Treat every gun wit+i the respect due a loaded gun. With this victory, the Medord squad has won two of the last three clashes with Crater. Last Friday evening, the Com ets were bottled up on both the ground and air as the Tornado crew exhibited a wealth of drive and punch. The Comets threatened only once during the game, when they penetrated to the Medford 23. They were unable to move deep er as Medford held and lost the ball on downs. Medford scored 23 points in the first half and added two more tallies in the final frame. Outstanding Crater perform ances were turned in by John Shama at end, Mel Harsh and Nathan Douthit as defensive line backers, Don Goyette for his offensive running, George Juve- land for his offense and defense work. A masquerade party will be held Thursday, October 20, by Central Point Lions club. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Legion Memorial hall. Ladies are to bring a box sup per for two. Coffee will be pro vided by the club. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Dancing will be from 9 to 11 p.m. to the music of Johnny Lusk at the electric organ. Former members and wives are cordially invited. BOY FOR BOES Mr. and Mrs. James Boes of Central Point are parents of a son bom Thursday, October 6, at Sacred Heart hospital in Med ford. Birth weight was 5 3-4 pounds. DICKERSON BOY A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Troy J. Dickerson, Route 2, Central Point, on Saturday, Oc tober 8, at Community hospital in Medford. Sì Pointers Lose Opener 13-6 To Ashland Team Sherbets LIME ORANGE RASPBERRY The Pointers of Central Point Junior High fell before Ashland Junior High last Thursday even ing at Ashland 13-6 in the sea son opener for the locals. The single Pointer score came in the first quarter as the locals pushed 70 yards for paydirt the first time they had possession of the ball. Loyal Higinbotham went over for the talley on an end run. Ashland went scoreless until the final two frames when they ground out two touchdowns. The squad has been working this week on strengthing these areas in prep aration for the McLaughlin game Saturday. Coach Esselstyn reported that the “extra” fifth quarter was quite successful. All Central Point squad members, who did not see action in the regular game, played in the extra period. RETURNS TO DUTY Sgt. James R. Hopkins, broth er of Mrs. Donald A. Faber of Central Point, left Sunday after being here for two weeks. He enjoyed deer hunting with his father. James Hopkins of Med ford. Sergeant Hopkins will be discharged from the service in March.
