Last Sunday 655 passengers were carried over the Corvallis and East ern Ry to Yaqnina bay, one of the leading summer resorts in Oregon. The market was influenced by lower cables and continued ex cellent weather for harvesting in Minnesota and Dakota. The color in the furrows is also worth noting. If very greeny green, it is under ripe; yellow, Htld it is apt to be mnshy. Very smooth snrface often raeank that the melon is over ripe. Steeve Meek, brother of Joe, whose name appears in an editorial today in The Observer, was paid two cows by the immigrants whom he lost in 1845 in the Oregon wil derness of now Harney county. The new proprietors at Morp Pharmacy, Dr. Goffin and Ladru Barnum, are nowr prepared to serve the public of Sherman county better than the community has ever been, served before since the first settle ments. It may be dull times and all that, bnt Moro Phurmacy has taken many papes in advance of the ti'mes quite recently. Geo. P. Sink was a busy man in Moro for an hour or so oh the 17th. Mr.-Sink represents the better part of Gilliam, and in answer as to the crops told us that from the most re liable information he could gather tbfi crop of that county will not fall short to exceed one-third, possibly forty to fifty per cent in some local ities, but in others the shortage will amount to hut a small per ceut. J. A. McNeil, combined harves ter expert with the L. V. Moore ma chine, was a caller at the Observer office Wednesday. He reports that Mr.Moore has his crop off 500acres in the sack, doing the work in 15 days including stops for repairs and niovek An average of 9 sacks was made off 200 acreB. The machine will now proceed to cut and sack the crop off 500 acres for Robert Kaseberg and W. F. Jackson. A meeting has been called of the Department of School Superintend ence, an organization of county and city superintendents, anil teachers, to meet at Salem on October 5th and 6tb. This being the last yeur of the present school hook contract the meeting will discuss needed school book change* and otlirt’ pro posed legislation affecting schools. W. Generally the stuff they advertise is not fit for use. An itinerating spectacle vendor named Nobel, made his appearance in Moro Monday but he didn’t stay. He found Mr. lleacock much bet ter prepared for the work that his bluff cut no ioe. The stand we take in such matters is: If the tramp is what be represents himself to be, in oases like this, he would settle down somewhere to steady business. If he is not, push him out; because Mr. lleacock is n bona fide citizen amongst us and deserves the trade. Whiteley.of Umatilla coun ty, a nephew of Mrs. J. H. Landry, is here this summer helping in the harvest. With a lively runaway, a rain storm and a fire alarm, all within an hour, Moro was quite active last Tuesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Freeman and Mrs OA Ramsey are in camp at Rohr Villa.
