However, all livestock prices arc up, steers being $5.50 more than a year ago (sounds like a boost for more stock and less grain) and also hank clearings are up and building perm its are much more than a year ago. Now th at i*n’t a bad rejxirt. Not everything is booming but more items are favorable than un favorable. One of the reasons for depressions Is the fear of the public that things will be worse. Indications are th at the public Isn’t scared nearly so badly as are the politicians because retail trade* is good in most places. So, as a topic for w orry It seems that the present state of the economy may soon give way to the fate of a favorable txiseball team. Last week in this column we mentioned the fact that non-fic tion couki be interesting. I won der why it is that peo> le shy away from reading non-fiction books. W hi'e the library board was preparing books for the shel ve«, 1 over-heard one say, “ It <?ems asham e to put these Agnes Keith books in nonfiction, t«e- cau.se no one will read them. The reason for separating flc tP n and non-fiction books on the shelves is to assist someone w ant ing data and facts alxiut some suhje t to find them. The non fiction books are so arranged that Ixx.ks of games, lxx»ks alxmt ertain geographical areas (Ore gon for example) and Ixioks about |M*opJe are all grouped. This week tlx* lxx,ks discussed here are all from the non-fiction shelf. I think if anyone were to read them by ju st picking them up from a table be would firnl them as interesting as a fiction lory. On«* of Stew art Holbrook’s books is “ Murder Out Yonder”. A scries of m urder m ysteries that actually occurred. One story starts like this, "The evening of March K, 1900 was wild. A storm howled down th«* Columbia River gorge as Mr. Norman Williams drove a two-horse team out of Ihxxl River." It continues to tell of the m urder of (wo women in WaAO Red Cross S tarting Annual Campaign I i i S . I ..» t .ll. I W ANT I l.«*v> Total Estim ated Ex|x*mlltures Total Estimate«!
