S. National bank manager, were among the visitors at the field day Tuesday. Edwin Balsiger took a plane Saturday for Newport, Rhode Island, to begin training for be coming a navy officer. His course is 16 weeks after which he will re turn for a short furolugh before beginning his three year stint. Mrs. Lester Barnum went to The Dalles Friday to get her son, Tommy, who returned from a week spent at Cove, Oregon at tending Ascension summer school. Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Black and children, Gregory and Gretchen, were holiday weekend guests of her parents, the Harry Pinker tons. They, together with the Dean Pinkertons and the Allan Pinkertons, attended the Searcy family reunion at Bear Springs Forest camp-ground Sunday. Mrs. Black and children returned for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Virtue and girls are leaving July 11 by train for Indiana and Michigan where they will visit relatives and friends. enables ♦he family fo limit the cost The Junior Legion baseball team has challenged their fathers to a ball game which will be play ed at the city park, July 21. A picnic lunch will follow the game which will be for five innings. Bob Hoskinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hoskinson, was award ed his wings at Bryan, Texas, June 29 and is now an air force flying man. He has been trans ferred to Phoenix, Arizona, hut will have a few days at home be fore reporting August 7. Kay Kirkelie was one of those in the church group at Grinnel college who had the flu. She was hospitalized a few days but was able to join the party which is now in Arizona on the wav home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hennagin pulled into town Wednesday mor ning from Phoenix, Arizona where they had been for a few’ weeks on business. George Mitchell was here Tues day to see the field day exhibits and look over the station that he supervised so many years. George Hailey was U len to Portland Tuesday by Mrs. Harold Hailey for an operation on one of his eyes. They are expected home in a few days. Bill Greiner of Condon spent Sunday visiting relatives and friends living In Rufus. Mr. and Mrs. James Fox are spending a few days at Corbett at their farm. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence \\ itchey of New Plymouth, Idaho who were old residents of the Blalock community stopped at the Will Huck home, but left a note when they found no one home. Mrs. Wltchey Is Bob Byrds mother. They were on their way home from Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sappington and children Gary and Sharon of tattle Falls, Minnesota are visit ing at the home of Mr. end Mrs Fred Harrison, parents of Mrs. Sappington. Friday evening they were all guests for dinner at the Bill Huck home. After dinner the Sappingtons showed many beau tiful slides of pictures they had taken. Some of the f<^ks worked as us ual not setting the day aside for special recognition. Apricots were picked at the local orchards on the 1th. Transparent apples are also ripe now. Apricots are good quality and quite plentiful local ly. There w ill be a few peaches hut just some for the local people, the fruit men say. The wheat men are getting their equipment In shape so many of them can l>egin harvesting Monday. A few farmers were cut ting the fall barley this week.
