Balaer A Court of Honor for troop No. 362 Boy Scouts of America was held at the Grass Valley school auditojjum Thursday evening, January 19, with 37 people pre sent. Boyce Blaylock, scoutmaster, presided at the meeting. Advance ment and awards were presented to the following: Tenderfoot bad ges were presented by Harry Stark to Malcolm Eslinger, John Eakin, Gene Eakin, John Kelly, Danny Martin and Danny Rolfe; second class badges were present ed by Ted Kelly to Jimmy Dun can, Johnnie Duncan, Jerry Kel ley, I^arry Middleton and Richard Stradley; first class badges were presented by Clair Balzer to Or ville Blaylock, Tommy Eakin, and Gene Schilling; merit badges were presented by Malcolm Eslin ger Sr., to Tommy Eakin, Gene Schilling, Jimmy Duncan, John nie Duncan, Richard Stradley and Orville Blaylock. Slides were shown by Dick Carson of The Dalles of various camps throughout the Northwest. The program was opened with a prayer by Rev. Don Leach and closed with the lienedktion by Rev. I^each and taps by Malcolm Eslinger. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting in the cafeteria by the mothers of the scout troop. ,1 «1 Sherman chapter No. 132 OES met at the Masonic hall last Tues day evening with Mrs. Erank von Borstel, worthy matron, presiding with 11 members present. Plans were made for outlining the pro gram for the new year and ap pointment of the following stand ing committees: sickness and re lief, Mrs. Harry Justesen, Mrs. Wallace May and Mrs. D. L. Rey nolds; finance: Wallace May, Owen Eakin and Mrs. Harold Ea kin; decoration: Mrs. Donald Clod- felter, Mrs. Art Blbby and Mrs. Lester Wilson; examining: Mrs. J. W. Blagg, Mrs. Ernest Eslinger and D. L. Reynolds; Instruction: Mrs. D. L. A. Dunlap and Mrs. Ralph Busse and those with anniversar ies were Mrs. Herman Ziegler, Mrs. Ralph Busse and Mrs. Bern ard McNeely. Refreshments were served at the close by Mrs. Bill Alsup and Mrs. Jack Brady. The next meeting will be held Wednes day February 1 at which time the mystery sisters will be revealed. Mr. and Mrs George von Bor stel were dinner guests Sunday at the Donald von Borstel home. The Grass Valley home exten sion unit met at the school Tues day afternoon when Mrs. Han son, county agent, presented the lesson “Buffet Meals”. Mrs. Har old Eakin, chairman, conducted the usual business meeting. The next meeting will lie held at the school February 22 when Mrs. Hanson will present the lesson "Preliminaries of Sewing Work shop”. Those present were Mrs. Eakin, Mrs. Willard Barnett, Mrs. A. A. Dunlap, Mrs. Estel Hartley, Mrs. Harold Owens, Mrs. O. N. Ruggles, Mrs. Wallace May and Mrs. Joe Hammond. New mem bers present were Mrs. Sim Dun can, Mrs. Boyce Blaylock, Mrs. Malcolm Eslinger and Mrs. Ken neth Todd. Mrs. Joe Hammond and daugh ters went to The Dalles Saturday to visit her husband at the hospi tal returning home Sunday. Mrs. A. A. Dunlap of Grass Val ley, Mr. apd Mrs. Kendrick Dun lap and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cushman of Moro and Kelly Wilson of Mitchell were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Watkins at Wasco. Mrs. Joe Blbby was hostess to the bridge club at her home Tues day evening with three tables In play. Mrs. Bob Marvin held high score, Mrs. C. It. Andersen second and Mrs. Don Smith low. Mrs. Andersen also won the traveling prize. Others present were Mrs. Bob Schilling, Mrs. Frank Ketter, Mrs. John Rust, Mrs. Paul Syron, Mrs. Harry Hooper, Mrs. Ken drick Dunlap, Mrs. Alfred Kock, Mrs. Alex Brander and Mrs. A. F. Balzer. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Payne and family went to Portland Saturday to visit her mother, Mrs. Chris tine Maldaner and her sister, Mrs. Adam Rauder and Mr. Bauder, re turning home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Balzer went to Wasco Sunday and spent the day visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hartmann. Mr. and Mrs. John McGraw of The Dalles spent Sunday here vis iting Mr. and Mrs. Earl Olds. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Crews were business visitors In The Dalles Tuesday. John Rolfe took Mrs. John Eng strom to The Dalles Friday to see her doctor. Monday.
