The women and Mr. Stayton are cousins of Mrs. Van Gilder. George Mimaugh, director of the state U.S. Bond sales, called in Moro Wednesday morning while on a trip about the state. He says Oregon has made the greatest gain in “E” bond sales and that the rise in the stock market has made government bonds a better buy than ever. Mrs. Myers, secretary of the Sherman county picnic held an nually in Portland, reports that the picnic this year will be held at Laurelhurst park on Sunday, Au gust 14. All Sherman countians, past and present, are invited to attend. Hattie Howard of 1640 SE 35th Place announces that the picnic for former residents of Jewell county, Kansas, will be held at Kenilworth park in Portland on August 21. Miss Eloise El>ert of the Oregpn State library staff, was here Wednesday to meet with the Moro library board. She praised the lib rary for its new classification sys tem and gave Instruction about library management. Carl Moser, immediate past com mander of the Oregon department, American Legion, stopped in Moro briefly last Thursday while on his way to The Dalles to present the award to the Legion team there which won the state championship that night in baseball. Carl Webb, secretary of the Ore gon Newspaper Publisher’s asso ciation, was a brief visitor in Moro last Friday when on his way to Baker to hold a sectional meeting for publishers in that part of the state. K. C.
