We have recently had it brought forcibly to our attention that we cannot expect to
have a railroad indefinitely if we do not use it.

The same thing is true of cur businesses, local businesses and others. There isn’t
any written rule about it. It is just an economic law. We either patronize local stores
and other local services or they will go to the shipyards, the cities or down the dirt road,
depending on the state of national prosperty.
We have gradually lost several businesses with as much value to the county as the
railroad. The loss has been slow and broken up into smaller matters so the loss has not
attracted the attention the threatened loss of the railroad did.

ware, dry goods, groceries unless we use
them. We cannot keep machine shops,
service stations, banks or even newspa­
pers unless we use them. Despite the
recent victory over the railroad we can­
not keep it indefinitely without we use it.
In fact, we don’t deserve to.
