Firefighters received a report of smoke at the Spruce Street restaurant at 2:45 a.m. and were able to The cause is undetermined quickly knock down the fire. Four incidents of overnight camping were reported. 12:19 a.m., Hemlock and Highway 101: Police issue a warning to a female who parked her car on a blind turn in order to slip out and urinate, creating a dangerous situation. 12:53 a.m., Beach and Tolovana Wayside: Juveniles with illegal fireworks and breaking curfew are warned and returned to their parents. 8:19 a.m., North Beach and Hem- lock: A man who said he hated rich people who was yelling profanities at tourists was contacted by the police. A woman who told police he had shouted “liposuction” at her was told by police this is freedom of speech. The man said he just wished to leave down and was allowed to do so. July 6 One incident of overnight camping was reported. July 9 Two incidents of overnight camping were reported. 14:00 p.m., E. Gower: Employees of a business report flat tires and nail in tires. Four incidents of overnight camping were reported. 15:16 p.m., Beach: A lost wedding ring is reported. Firefighters responded to a small blaze in Cannon Beach Sunday. County firefighters respond to Substation Fire 21:51 p.m., Beach and Jackson: A fugitive is apprehended. July 12 One case of overnight camping was reported 10:53 a.m., East Ocean: A little lost boy is reunited with his family. CANNON BEACH FIRE 12:32 p.m., Sea Ranch: A four year old boy walking alone with a dog is reported at the bridge. Police contact the father and the son; the boy had been told he could not leave the campground with the dog, but he did. 23:58 p.m., Broadway, Seaside: Police assist Seaside police. 10:16 a.m., Beach: A lost drone is reported. Cannon Beach firefighters responded to large trash can fire by Sweet Basil’s Cafe Sunday morning. A neighbor heard pop- ping sounds at the business on Hemlock Street at around 2:45 a.m. The neighbor called 911, Fire Chief Matt Benedict said, but knocked out the fire with a garden hose. The fire appears to be acci- dental, but the cause is unde- termined, Benedict said. The two trash cans and the structure enclosing them were completely destroyed. There was heat damage to a nearby vehicle and the pots on the restaurant’s porch, but other- wise no damage to the build- ing, Benedict said. July 11 Eight incidents of overnight camp- ing are reported. Nine incidents of overnight camping are reported. July 7 By Brenna Visser July 13 1:56 a.m., E. Gower: A flipflop with a threatening message written on it is left at the door of the police department. Police learned it had been left there by a concerned citizen who found it at the beach at Umpqua. Another matching flip flop was later found, but with no message. There are no suspects. Local firefighters headed east earlier this month to help combat the Substation Fire in Sherman and Wasco counties. The Daily Astorian Clatsop County firefighters joined the efforts to combat the Substation Fire in Sherman and Wasco counties. Fire agencies from Seaside, Gearhart, Lewis and Clark, Astoria and Knappa sent resources and personnel. Seaside Fire Chief Joey Daniels led the local group. The fire is now mostly contained. The fast-moving fire grew to 79,000 acres and led to one death.
