Brown returned Tuesday evening from a week's visit in western Oregon. Oscar Veatch and D. S. Brown left Wednesday morning for Heppner where they will attend the meeting of the Masonic Lodge. R. M. Rogers who has been at tending to business matters in eastern Washington for the past week, returned Tuesday. " J. E. Keeler of Portland ' who has been looking over Gilliam and Wheeler counties with a view of investing left Wednes day morning to return to his home. He expressed himself as being very well pleased with this section and expects to re turn. Mrs. T. J. Linnville who has been in the sanitarium at The Dalles where she underwent an operation some time ago, retur ned to her home in this city on Monday. She is entirely recov ered. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Reisacher returned Monday evening from a few days visit in Portland Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Wood who had been visiting in The Dalles and Portland returned Monday evening. Mrs. J. Eggleston arrived in this city Monday evening to join her husband who has the con tract for painting the new Acad emy. She expects to remain here until her husband finishes his contract John Madden the pioneer ran cher of Lone Rock has moved to this city and will spend the win ter here. Chas. Williams. Ed. Spencer and G. B. Dukek of this city at tended the meeting of the I. 0 0. F. Lodge at May ville last Sat urday. Degrees were conferred unon five members. The Fossil deeree team did the work and according to all reports their team work is of the highest quality. The public schools of this city will close on next Wednesday for the Xmas holidays and the vaca tion will last until the 4th of January. Assessor-elect Otis Campbel has recently received some fine office furniture with which he will fit up his place of business. His term of office will begin the first of the year. Ed Chuck, who has been em ployed for several months on the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy building, returned to his home in rtaweo-o on Monday morning. Mr. Chuck made many freinds while in the Wheat City. R. L. Hunt, who is a traveling salesman for the Clarke, Wood ard Drug Co. of Portland, was in this citv Wednesday. Mr. Hunt was formerly in the drug husinesa in Condon and his many friends will be glad to hear of his success in his present voca tion. His present employers are lucky to secure the services 01 a genial companion and a compe tent salesman as Mr. Hunt un doubtedly is.
