A sumptous chicken supper was served after which all present repaired to their homes. . 0. Engberg, the boss plasterer on the new Academy bunding, returned to Portland this morn ing. He paid this oflice a visit yesterday to subscribe for the Globe in order to keep up with the news of Gilliam county and of the city in which he worked. He completed the big job of plastering the academy yester day afternoon and all the men left this morninar. The con tractors were very fortunate in securing Messrs. Engberg & Oberg to do the contract of plastering as the work they have done is of the best quality and shows much skill in that line of work. Both of these gentlemen are good fellows and made many friends while in this city. Why buy other flour when our Olympic has no equal and is a money saver. Fred Adlard was born in Lin colnshire, England, Jan. 29, 1836 and came to America in 1854. He first located in Benton Co.. Ore., and in 1875 married Miss Katie Willbanks. In 1888 he moved his family to Gilliam Co., locating at Ajax where he has since resided. Mr. Adlard was taken sick on Dec 7, passing away on December 8th. He leaves a wife and twelve children to mourn his loss: W. T. Adlard of Ferry Canyon, Mrs. F. Mar vel of Dilley. Ore., W. R. Adlard of Alville, Mrs. R. E. Myers and Miss Lulu Adlard of Condon, r red Adlard, Mrs. J. Burden, Misses Lthel, Alice, Ldith and Helen Adlard, and Chas. Adlard, all of Ajax. Catholic Fair a Success. The Catholic Fair, which end ed last evening, was most suc cessful, and has swollen the building fund of the new Acad emy, lhe two entertainments were especially good and enjoyed by large audiences. We are sorry to lose such good neigh bors as Mr. and Mrs. Strickler; as for Jake, never fear he'll be back. Council Votes Ten-Mill Tax. To defray the heavy expenses of the city, to pay the $3,060.00 interest now due on the bonded water system, and to help defray the big item of new water mains, the council voted a ten-mill tax.
