MM BUSINESS MEN JOIN Club Will Maintain Football, Baseball and Baskat Ball Taama. The Board of Trustees of the Condon Athletic Club held a meeting in the Club rooms on Tuesday evening. Following are the names of those whose ' application for membership were brought before the board and ' elected: R. W. Benson, G. W. Parman, Chas. II. Williams, A. A. Keene, H. W. Pauling, R. M. Rogers, M. C Clarke, W. B. Townsend, John Jackson, Chaa. A. Simpson, A. B. Robert son, Frank Laughrige, Several bills were allowed. It was de cided to install the shower bath as soon as possible. Leslie K. Harlan was appointed janitor for one month. Gymnasium hours are from 7 p. m. to 10 p. m. week days, and from 9 a. m. to 10 p. m. on Sun days. H. A. Hartshorn and H. McBride were appointed football managers. Marcus Portwood, Leslie Harlan and G. Seaton Taylor were appointed as an indoor athletic committee. Chaa. and Harry Fitzmaurice and Walter Seale were appointed as a committee on handball. The entertainment committee is composed of J. C. Sturgill, Chas. II. Williams, Jas. Smith, W. C. Brown and Edgar Donnelly. THE WHEAT CITY BAND. To Bt) Credit to Our City Great Intereat Being Taken. LOCAL BREAKS DOWN. Driving Pin Snapa in Local YardCauses Much Delay. The local was delayed several hours Monday morning in the local yards on account of the breaking of the main drive pin while switching. It was necess ary for the crew to take off all the heavy driving gear on the left side of the engine and make the run to Arlington with only the driving power of the right side. The only cars taken down the line by the crippled engine were the mail and passenger cars. After reaching Clem the engine was unable to take its light load farther and a special engine had to be sent for from The Dalles. The local returned from Arling ton abo-it 10:30 p. m. E. O. Fiske, manager of the Kerr, Gifford.Whse. Co. at Ar lington, came up Thursday even ing. F. M. Pliter came up yesterday from his home in the Rose City. Henry Thiessen made a flying triy down the line Thursday, Kenneth Welshons who has been at his home at Clem for a few days returned to Condon Thursday. A. J. Shelton & Co. are now prepared to handle farms and city property, in fact any and all kinds of real estate. Call at their office in the Wasson build ing on the east side of Main St Sweet strains of music will in a week or so be heard as if wafted by gentle zephyrs over the Wheat City Condon's new brass band will then be on its first rehearsal. If your peaceful slumbers are somewhat disturbed during the next few months, nevermind, go to your neighbor, i say a good word in behalf of the faithful musicians for some day you may want to jump in the band wagon to join the boosters of the Wheat City brass band. A meeting was hek( in SupL J. C. SturgiU's office Monday evening for the purpose of or ganizing a local band. The at tendance was exceptionally good and a band was organized with the following members: Misses Thiessen; Tula Kinsley.clarinets; H. A. Hartshorn, E-flat cornet; W, mm w murpny, ueroert uarke and Marcus Portwood, B-flat cornets G. E. Swafford, baritone; Dr. A. A. Keene, solo alto; Misses Veva Portwood and Bessie Austin, alto Chester Titus and Mis Myrtle Scrivener, tenors; Norbert Laughrige, solo trombone; Har- ley Frey, trombone; SupL J. C Sturgill, tuba; Leslie Harlan, snare drum; and Jas. Smith, bass drum. Dukek Who, as Secretary and Treasurer of the Second Annual Granee Fair of Gilliam and Wheeler Counties, deserves great praise for his untiring efforts in making a great success of the last Grange Fair. Mrs. James F. Hughes Mrs. Jas. F. Huirhes who had been very low for some time with pneumonia, passed awav Wednesday evening at 8:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. Tierney of this city. Deceased was sixty years of age. She was born in Canada and removed to Iowa at an early age, was married to Jas. F. Hughes in the early six ties at Decorah, Iowa, where she lived until she came to Con don about eighteen months'ago. Her husband died in 1893. The children surviving her are: Mrs. D. Tierney and Miss Lillian Hughes of this city, Mrs. D. Smith of Fargo, N. D., who ar rived in Condon last week, and two sons who live in the east. The remains will be taken to Iowa for interment, leaving Condon this morning, LOUS' REEK" "Dinna forget the Caledonians are in toon" and have been given the freedom of the city. Come CONDON MAY CO WET Medford Liquor Case Also Changes Local Situation. The Supreme Court, on Tues day of this week, rendered a de cision in what is commonly known as the Medford liquor case, sustaining the decision of the lower court which held that the provision .contained in the Medford charter repealed the local option law in so far as the latter ir in conflict with provision. The court further recites the pro vision in the Condon and Estacada charters are almost, .identically the same as that in the Medford charter and the result is that Condon may be "wet" before ong.
