James Burns, of Dunn Bros., left last Friday on a hurried trip to the old home in Ohio. He will be away about three weeks. Miss Ruth Simpson arrived in Condon Wednesday to be the guest of her brother, Cass A. Simpson for a week. Brunzel & Son are in the mar ket for horses. They want sound animals; see their add elsewhere. McBride and Crosby, the two baseball players who did stunts for the v,lem team during the tourth of July series, are now playing with the Union Meat Co. team of Portland. Editor James Stewart, Mrs. Stewart and son Biair, of Fossil, were in Condon on their way home from Grants Pass where they have bean visiting for some little time. Have you seen the dodgers for Frank Crawford's big cattle sale at the Condon stockyards? Mrs. L. P. Conroy left this morning for Pendleton for a few days' visit, from where she will goon to Greenleaf, Kansas, for a visit at the old home. On her return Mrs. Conroy will stop in California. A. Larsen went to Portland this morning to join the Shrin ers who will go to Eugene to ini tiate a class of forty Saturday evening. Mr. Larsen will stop in Salem over Sunday to see Mrs. Larsen and daughter who are visiting in the Capital City. An attachment for gang plows to harrow one round while plow ing another is the latest in farm implements shown by Hunt, the Hardware Man. Steve Fletcher is in town from White Salmon, Wash", his new home, and expects to return to-morrow. Steve is now a fruit grower, having purchased ten acres of fine fruit land. He will raise strawberries and peaches which he says are far ahead of the Hood River products because no irrigation is needed- George and Thomas Meldrum arrived in Condon from Scotland Tuesday to make this vicinity their future home. Banker W. W. Steiwer, of Fossil, was in Condon on Wed nesday morning on his way to Portland. Frank Laughrige, a brother of Norbert Laughrige who is as sistant postmaster, has a posi tion with the Arlington Lumber Company. Wm. Campbell and daughters. Misses Lillie and Sybel, took their departure for a week's visit in Portand, on Wednesday morn- ning's train. Superintendent J. C. Sturgill went to Arlington yesterday morning to meet Mrs. Sturgill, who was returning from an ex- tended visit with relatives near Baker City. Miss Mabel Larson is enjoying a month's vacation from her duties at the post-office, having left Wednesday morning for Portland. Before returning Miss Larson will visit with friends in Salem and in Snohomish, Wash. L. E. Laurance went to Ar lington Wednesday to meet Louis Doonar. They both came to Condon the same evening. Since leaving here some months ago, Mr. Doonar has been staying in Seattle. He left yesterday for Ellensburg. Wash. He has not as yet found a permanent busi ness location. Ackerman to present a paper before the annual convention of the County School Ssperintend ents of Oregon which meets in Salem September 10 and 11. Thrall, the live stock in surance man, is in town from The Dalles. S. S. Grider has rented his ranch, 1 miles east of town, to W. L Barker. Mr. Grider will move to town and work at the carpenter trade. Word has been received here that J. C. Hardman and J. E. Ramsey who were in the livery stable business here a few months ago, but who are now located at Albany, are longing to be back in Condon. Rev. James Crook, of Seattle, who assisted in the meetings held in the tent the past week, left Monday morning for Leban non, Wash., where he will be en gaged in similar work. The meetings here are still conducted In the big tent and will continue the rest of the week. J. A. Richmond is the proud possessor of a chick of a breed seldom seen in Oregon though native of Canada. It was during his recent trip to the old home in Canada that Mr. Richmond ob tained the setting of eggs from which this rather unique speci nen was hatched. When full ?rown these fowls have a fine :oal black plumage and huge jlood-red combs and are said to je fine egg producers. Mr. Richmond says that they are an exceptionally fine breed of chick' ens and only regrets that out of the setting but one little chick lived to see the light of an Aug ust day in Gilliam county. Deaths. J. W. Boyer died in this city about 8 o'clock Wednesday even ing at Dr. Wood s residence a short time after having been brought on the train from Van couver, Wash. Deceased was 21 vears of asre. died of consump tion and was brought here at his own request His father and two sisters accompanied him from Vancouver. Funeral ser vices took place in the Mayville Odd Fellows cemetery this morn ing at 10:30 o'clock. Mrs. H. C. Jackson, daughter of Joe Mattmgly, died in Port land Monday. The body was brought to Condon on the train Thursday and the burial was held in Mayville this morning in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Rev. Edward Curran officiated. De ceased was well known, having lived in this vicinity until two years ago. She leaves a husband and children. Mrs. L. M. Portwood, aged 26 years, a sister-in-law of J. J. Portwood of this city, died in Portland Sunday and the funeral services took place on Tuesday. Little Gladys Neil, the 3 1-2 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Neil, of Lone KocK, died at the family home last Saturday, having succ umbed to that dread disease diphtheria. The burial took place at Lone Rock Sunday. Clem News. W. S. Jost and E. J. McPher son made a business trip to Con don Monday evening. C. Schott and Henry Wilkins moved their beef cattle from here to Hay Creek, where they have rented a pasture from J. J. Fehrenbacher. Jesse Cram was in town Tues day after a load of flour for Wade & Wade of Olex. Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Wade and daughter, Bessie, were in town the first of the week. Wilma Yancy left Tuesday morning from Blalock. Dr. L. L. Taylor, of Condon, came down Tuesday morning to attend a sick horse belonging to Sherman Wade. Mr. Wade has lost two of his best horses within the last two weeks from an un known cause. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Mobley. of Olex visited with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Nott last Sunday. Mrs. Wm.
