Steve Fletcher is in town from
White Salmon, Wash", his new
home, and expects to return

George and Thomas Meldrum
arrived in Condon from Scotland
Tuesday to make this vicinity
their future home. The young

Portland. Before returning Miss
Larson will visit with friends in
Salem and in Snohomish, Wash.
L. E. Laurance went to Ar
lington Wednesday to meet Louis
Doonar. They both came to
Condon the same evening. Since
leaving here some months ago,
Mr. Doonar has been staying in
Seattle. He left yesterday for
Ellensburg. Wash. He has not
as yet found a permanent busi
ness location.

County School Superintendent
Sturgill has received an invita
tion from State School Supt J.H.
Ackerman to present a paper
before the annual convention of
the County School Ssperintend
ents of Oregon which meets in
Salem September 10 and 11. As
school begins here Sept 14,
Professor Sturgill will not be
able to attend.

Rev. James Crook, of Seattle,
who assisted in the meetings
held in the tent the past week,
left Monday morning for Leban
non, Wash., where he will be en
gaged in similar work. The
meetings here are still conducted

the rest of the week.
J. A. Richmond is the proud
possessor of a chick of a breed
seldom seen in Oregon though
native of Canada. It was during
his recent trip to the old home in
Canada that Mr. Richmond ob
tained the setting of eggs from
which this rather unique speci
nen was hatched. When full
?rown these fowls have a fine
:oal black plumage and huge
jlood-red combs and are said to
je fine egg producers. Mr.
Richmond says that they are an
exceptionally fine breed of chick'
ens and only regrets that out of
the setting but one little chick
lived to see the light of an Aug
ust day in Gilliam county.
Deaths.
J. W. Boyer died in this city
about 8 o'clock Wednesday even
ing at Dr. Wood s residence a
short time after having been
brought on the train from Van
couver, Wash. Deceased was 21
vears of asre. died of consump
tion and was brought here at his
own request His father and
two sisters accompanied him
from Vancouver. Funeral ser
vices took place in the Mayville
Odd Fellows cemetery this morn
ing at 10:30 o'clock.
Mrs. H. C. Jackson, daughter
of Joe Mattmgly, died in Port
land Monday. The body was
brought to Condon on the train
Thursday and the burial was
held in Mayville this morning in
the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Rev.
Edward Curran officiated. De
ceased was well known, having
lived in this vicinity until two
years ago. She leaves a husband
and children.
Mrs. L. M. Portwood, aged 26
years, a sister-in-law of J. J.
Portwood of this city, died in
Portland Sunday and the funeral
services took place on Tuesday.
Little Gladys Neil, the 3 1-2
year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Neil, of Lone KocK,
died at the family home last
Saturday, having succ
umbed to that dread disease
diphtheria. The burial took
place at Lone Rock Sunday.

attend a sick horse belonging to
Sherman Wade. Mr. Wade has
lost two of his best horses within
the last two weeks from an un
known cause.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Mobley. of
Olex visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Allen Nott last Sunday.
Mrs. Wm. Nendel was in town
this week. - She took out with
her a supply of groceries for the
threshing crew from Jost & Phil-
