McMorria had the contract for that building, and his help was all fonnd in the Condon and May ville countries, Mr. Snyder had the contract fur that building at one time but, for reasons best known to himself, threw It up. There are number of bonds In tho clerk's offlce at tbla time without proper stampt. Bloody Tragedy at Seaside. A fearful tragedy occurred at Seaside, Clattop county, on Friday of last week, whereby Sheriff J. W. Williams, Deputy Sheriff James Lamera and Desperado Charles Wlllard lost their Uvea, and Deputy Sheriff A. E. Miller waa serions ly wounded. Senator C. W, Fulton was also with the sheriff 'a posse and took a hand In the fierce battle. The posse started to arrest Willard, who was charged with bnrglary and arson, and the fight took place with the altove re sults. After Willard had killed the sheriff and deputy he ttarted to escape and Senator Fulton "winged" him with well-aimed shot from his Winchester. The deerado tell and waa thought to he dead, but after Mr. Fulton ttarted for help he drew a pistol and began shooting at Deputy Sheriff Miller, alio responded with a rifle shot which Dually dispatched him. Willard waa known as Texas desperado. Senator Fulton will be remem!ted by Condon people at one of the Republican spt-akert at this place during the late campaign. Immigration Convention. J. C. The Baker City Republican vouchee (or the truthfulness of the following: Mr, Frank Porter, of Baker City, reared a hen, and during her abort life time she laid eggs which are valued at about f10. Mr. Porter fattened the lien and killed her for part of a Christmas dinner, and upon examining the glxiard there were found five pieces of pure gold, the value of w hich la 50 cents. The horrbile news has just reached us from Kansas that dur ing the latter part of the summer a young man climbed a cornstalk to see how the ears were getting along. A shower of rain fell while he was up tho stalk, and the corn began growing faster than he could slide down. Three men undertook to cut the stalk down, but owing to its rapid growth it was feared they would not succeed in time to prevent the young man's death by starvation.
