to devote a good deal of his timo this
winter to looking after his sheep, and
during his absence the store will be in
charge of Messrs. Moore and Clarke
Mr. O. W. Rinehart loft Monduy for
Lane county, whore he has a case in
circuit court an ejectment suit. It ap
pears that the man who resides on Mr
Rinohart's farm, near Eugeno, refuses
to pay rent and will not vacate, and Mr,
Rinehart has resorted to the strong arm
of the law to oust him.

The happy young couple begin their new
lives with the best wishes of a large cir
cle pf friends. They have already be
gun housekeeping at the Downing ranch
one milo north of town, where t he groom
had everything comfortably prepared for
tne event.
We received a letter this week from
Qeorgo and Henry DeMoss, of DeMoes
Springs, stating that they arrived home
safely the same day they left Condon,
and that their sister Lizzie has almost
recovered from her gunshot wounds.
They desire in this way to thank the
people of Condon for the hospitable man
ner in which they were treated during
ttieir stay in Condon.
Mr. Daniel 8. Wright and Mis Birdie
Downing were married in the" parlor of
the Warshauer hotel at Baker City on
Wednesday evening of last week, Oct.
20th. The trroom is vounif minlns
man of Bourne, who recently came out
from Kentucky. The ceremony was per
formed by Rev. J. R. N. Bell in the pres
ence of a number of friends, including
the bride's mother, who left next day
for her home In California. Tbe newly
married couple will reside at Bourne for
the present.

and sold at a profit. Gilliam county
should raise ber own corn, instead of
letting the money go to Kansas farmers.
The water Co has a force of men lav

house up Main street, to take the place
of the old wooden mains. Arlington has
the best water service of any town in
KaHtern Oregon.
Our merchants are rushed with busi

taking back his winter supplies and W

tle, as he has a good offer, and tho grass
is not promising for winter.
The Olex mails were delayed for sev
eral days last week but tbe blockade was
finally raised and the cause was found
to exist in Mr Win Hunt having a pair
of hoots come through from Buckingham

land, Nora Miller, Charles Stricklin and
Harvey and Lester Thomas. Olex will
keep hammering away until all the res
idents will get in union and earnestly
pull for a good school. Then the mill
will begin to grind and scholars that will
yet rule the universe will get their
"larnln" at Olox. Prof Nott is the right
man in the right place and pupils and
parents are gutting to know it.

Southern lynchers have lately added
insult to injury by compelling their
victim to dig their own grave.
D. C. Harmon was unable to find a
house at Condon, so he sold tbe Riggs
ranch, 200 acre, which he recently trad
ed for, to A. Hartman, whose farm it
adjoins, and he left with bis family this
week for the Palouse country.
A petition was circulated this week
and aigned by all of our taxpayers, ask
ing the city council to bond the city in
the sum of $2000, tbat amount to be add
ed to the $1200 now in the city treasury,
for the purpose of providing some kind
of fire protection.' It is thought that the
most feasible plan is to blast out a cis
tern on the hill above town, put up a
windmill and pipe the water. Some
thing should be done, as the town ought
to bave some protection from fire.
The people of Condon and the entire
county will be pleased to learn that John
Reisacher, one of the best saddlers and
harnessmakers on the coast, has estab
lished a harness shop at Condon. His
large stock of new goods will be here the
latter part of this week, and be has
secured a splendid location the large
Barr building, opposite Barker's store.
Until he furnishes rooms in tbe rear of
tne building for housekeeping, be and
hia wife will reside with tbe family of
Sheriff Wilcox. They will be a welcome
acquisition to our town, Mrs. Reisacher
being one of the. most accomplished
ladies and musicians in the country.

Shelton's new hotel is almost com
pleted.
Max Putz started his singing school
last Sunday.
They are talking of getting up a bis
ball here at May vi lie for Thanksgiving.
Our school has started again, with
Miss Maggie Wilson as teacher and 43
pupils.
A large nnmberof fine bogs belonging
to E P Weir were delivered at Arlington
the first of the week.
Mr Hunter bad the misfortune to break
his arm in two places last Sunday, by
his horse falling with him.
Mrs Townsend has moved in town to
send her little bovtoour school. Miss
Maud Nortridge is also attending school
here.
Gainey Mathews left for Gilliam coun
ty last Thursday to look after his ranch
there. He will be absent about three
weeks. Eugene Guard.
Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Weir of Mayville
left Tuesday for Phoenix, Aria., where
they will Bpend tbe winter, in tbe hope
of restoring Mr. Weir's health, which
ha not been good for some time, the re
sult of lung troubles.
B. Pettyjohn of this county measures
six feet five and three quarter inches in
his stockings. He is straight as an arrow
and finely proportioned and weighs 25(1
pounds, lie has a cousin, alsoan Oregon
boy, now living in Walla Walla, who
measures seven feet and one inch and
weighs 810 pounds. The cousins' family
constats of six persons whose average
