THE FACTS Arguments are now being sent through the mail in the support of the constitutional amendment to limit interest rates in Oregon to 4 and 6 per cent. In concluding the ar gument the articele says; "Your gov ernment pays less than 5 per cent on loans amounting to billions of dollars. If it is right for Uncle Sam it is right for Uncle Sam's subjects." Press dispatches on the same date show liberty bonds selling at the lowest price on record, running from $5.00 to $17.50 off on every $100 while U. S. Treasury Certificates to meet current indebtedness are offerel at 6 W, to 5 per cent. Canadian bonds are hunting buyers at iy per cent and ioreign government secur ities are going begging at from 7 to 9 per cent and better. These are facts and can be verified at anv bank. Where would Oregon be if it should pass a measure limiting inter est rates in this state to 4 and 5 per cent? Oregon would simply be off the map. This is not "capital istic" propaganda. It is hard horse sense and affects the life of every industry in the state. The Federal Reserve bank in San Francisco according to .ureas dis patches is contemplating raising its aiscount rate w or per cent. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roswum were the unfortunate victims of a very serious fire Wednesday morn ing when the destroying element visi ted their pretty suburban home in the Curtis addition and destroyed their lartre barn including their automo bile, farm implements, garden and carpenter tools, 100 rabbits, a lot of finfl chickens, etc. The fire occurred at two o'clock in the morning and is unaccounted for unless there was some defective electric wiring as the barn was lighted by electricity.
