Oregon girls' and boys' clubs are publicly thanked for their work in collecting fruit pits and nut shells, by the pras division of the chemical warfare service. This action was taken in the form of a letter .from O. H. Ben son, in charge of government club work, to H. C. Seymour. conjunction with the forest ser vice. The plan involves having town and county wood fuel dep uties arrange for wood at rea sonable prices for villages and small cities, through the opera tion of a wood yard, and taking orders from consumers and then urging farmers to supply it at a fair price. Wood cutting clubs will be organized and a system of competition inaugurated among them. The scheme is most popular in eastern . states where the fuel shortage is more acute than in the west.
