The rooms were beautifully decorated with spring flowers and apple blos soms. A delightful program was rendered as follows: Piano duet, "Spanish Dance," Moskowski, Betty Jane Eager and Marjorie Douglas; Vocal solo, (a) "'A heart that's free," (b) "Molly's eye," Mrs. David Stone; Reading, Poems, Mrs. Clifton Phil lips; Piano solo, "Valse Chromatiqu" Lois Johnson; Greetings, Rev. Phil lips; Vocal solo, "Carmena," Jenna mae Read; Monologue, "Women's rights," Mrs. C. M. Eager; Vocal trio, '"Southern melodies," Mrs. Floyd Pinkerton, Mrs. Loyd Michener and Miss Dorothy Rodman. . The program was followed by games and delicious refreshments. The honor guests who have taught in the schools here for several years will not return to Athena and .each was presented with a dainty gift as a token of the friendship of their hosts. In Honor of Daughter A dainty and charming color scheme in shades of lavendar and yellow, was used by Mrs. W. P. Lit tlejohn when she entertained at luncheon in honor of her daughter Mrs. Guerney of Ha'nes, who visited here. Sweet peas and buttercups centered four tables and place cards and confections in the same colors marked the sixteen covers. Following luncheon bridge was played, Mrs. H, A. Barrett receiv ing a dainty award for high score. Mrs. F. S. Le Grow received the con solation prize. Guests for the oc casion included, Mrs. B. B. Richards, Mrs. Lloyd Michener, Mrs. C. M. Walla Walla Country club, having as her guests Mrs. M. M. Johns and Mrs. F. B. Boyd of this city, and Mrs. Lilian Fredericks of Weston. c motored to Walla Walla Tuesday where they attended their annual luncheon at Jensen's tea room. Beautiful lavender sweet peas and rose colored snap dragons made an attractive centerpiece and card3 in the same shades marked the places of the guests. Mrs. R. B. McEwen as toast mis tress introduced the following, Mrs. Max Hopper, who spoke of "Past years and last year"; Mrs. Lloyd Michener, "Next year and future years"; Mrs. C. M. Eager, "Operet tas, past and future"; Miss Mildred Bateman, "'The departing"; Mrs. B. B. Richards, "The Stickers"; This being the last meeting of the year for the Etude club a brief busi ness session was held, following the luncheon. Entertained School Faculty Mrs. B. B. Richards and Mrs. 0. 0 Stephens entertained the . faculty of the Athena school at dinner at the Richards home Thursday even ing. A cluster of beautiful old fashioned flowers in pastel shades formed the centerpiece and dainty baskets of rainbow tints marked the ten covers. Those who enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Stephens were, Mr. and Mrs. 0. C Hadley, Mr. and Mrs. M. I. Miller, Miss Mildred Bateman, Miss Mary Jane Cornelison, Mr. Stolz heise, - Miss Lorraine Terry, Miss Dorothy Rodman and Miss Evelyn Sellars. Club Honors Miss Johnson Miss Lois Johnson will be honored next Thursday , afternoon, May 19, when the Etude club will entertain at tea at the home of Mrs. Max Hopper on south Third street. Friends of Mfes Johnson are invited to call be tween the hours of 2:30 and 5 o'clock. During the afternoon the honor guest will' appear in piano numbers for the entertainment of the guests and will be assisted by Miss Margaret Mitchener of Walla Walla who will read several selec tions. Miss Johnson who is a popu lar member of the 1927 graduating class of the Athena high school is a talented and accomplished pianist Her technique Is remarkable and her clarity of interpretation makes her playing worthy of highest commenda tion. Saturday night some one effected entrance to Max Lewin's grocery store, - and took away with them something like $75 in cigars, tobac co and canned goods. No clue to the burglars has been found. Frank Henry arrived from La Grande Sunday, and nas taken charge of the Athena band. Last Thursday night Pythian Lodge No. 29, K. of P., conferred three ranks on Reed Hill. Several Weston brethren were in attendance. Charles Stansell, Nate Pinkerton and Sam Booher left Wednesday for the Robinsonville mining district, where they will prospect this sum mer. Sovereign, the populist orator spoke in Weston Wednesday night. James A. Howard, candidate on the democratic ticket for county re corder" and Thomas J. Hailey, demo cratic nominee for - judge, were in town yesterday shaking hands with the boys. Born, in Athena, May 6, 1896, to Mr. and Mrs. Max Lewin, a boy, weight 10 pounds. ;' Several families, friends of Dr. L. Dell, gathered simultaniously at his residence on the night of April SO, and gave him a thorough surprise. The occasion was marked by the doctor's 58th birthday. ! A gang of horse thieves have been operating in Union and Baker coun ties for some time past. Sheriff Kil bourn, of Baker county,'- is said to have been close on the trail of the thieves, at a point on Snake river, and scattered them. It is estimated that the gang have in the neighbor hood of 300 horses " which they are endeavoring to drive out of the state. Little Ida Hiteman came near meeting with a serious accident Wed nesday evening. -The little girl was put on the family horse on Main street for a ride home. The horse, while perfectly gentle is possessed I of considerable life, and starting on a smart gallop, soon increase! its speed to a swift pace. At the alley near the Hiteman home, Ida fell off to the ground, but received no injury.
