f v I 22 Years Ago IMMMUMMMMUMMII October 28 1904 Dan Mclntyre left the first of the week for the Alberta country, where he will look over the field with a view ' to purchasing land. Mrs. E. A. Dudley is visiting her parents in Walla Walla, where she went Wednesday to attend the wed ding of her sister, Miss Eva McDon ald, and Will M. Peterson. Miss Christine Proebstel, . of Wes ton, will be married in Portland, Monday, October 31, to Mr. Hughes, a wealthy cattleman of Sante Fe, New Mexico. Hon. G. W. Proebstel, her father, with Mrs. Proebstel, will witness the ceremony. . Mrs. Joe Banister has returned from a two weeks' visit with relatives and friends in the Palouse country. Mrs. Banister attended the Colfax fair and was much impressed with the fine display of fruit. She reports the families of all the former Athe 'iJNi people as well and prosperous. Boxing is the favorite pastime among the boys at school during re creation hours. The fad has now struck the lower rooms, and the way some of the little fellows knock each other out is not slow. November 1, 1904 The names of thirty business men and property owners have been af fixed to a paper that calls for the organization of a commercial as sociation in Athena. A meeting was held Saturday evening in the office cf 0. G. Chamberlain, at wnich dis cussion was made regarding the need of an organization of -this nature here. A. M. Gillis was named tem porary chairman and 0. G. Chamber lain secretary. The new plate-glass front being placed in the Pioneer drug store building by J. W. Adams, is to be painted a bright vermillion red and the interior will be white enamel. The front portion of the store will be lighted ' with a 300 candle power electric light. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Gross ar rived home on Saturday's Spokane passanger, from a trip to the World's fair, and a pleasant visit with friends in Iowa. They came home by way of St. Paul and the Northern Pacific. Mr. Gross, like' all others, says he en joys a visit east, but "doesn't want to live there," and was glad to come back to balmy Oregon after having encountered the bleak winds of Iowa and Minnesota.
