Milton gets a 135,000 briok buildiug, and tbe one at Freewater will cost $ 10,000. T. S. Haudaaker of Walla Walla, traveling in the interests of tbe Congo missionary work, gave a very interest ing leotnre at tbe Christian oburob Monday evening. J. Bean, Wednes day handed down bis decision upon tbe demurrer in tbe case of Moses Taylor vs. Isabella IayJor, John Ban nister, and R. J. Boddy. Several months ago Taylor started an action for damages against tbe three above named parties for tbe sum of $59,000.00. alleging that be bad been damaged in that Bum on aooount of a malicious prosecution in which the said defendants are aoonsed of rail roading him to the penitentiary for an alleged attempt to commit the crime of arson by attempting to burn John Bannister's barn. A demurrer was filed to the com plaint upon two grounds: First; that tbe complaint ' did not state faots sufficient to constitute a cause of ac tion ; second that the aotion had not been oommenoed within tbe time pre scribed by law for snob actions to be begun. Attorney J. P. Winter, representing Mr. Taylor, stated that the case wonld probaby be appealed to tbe Supreme Court and be beard in that court at its May term io Pendleton. A family living in the north part of town were reported to tbe charitably inolined in Atbena this week, as in very poor oironmstanoes, and received a generous donation, both from tbe Masonio lodge and by private sub scription. This levy of two mills on the assessed valuation of property in the distriot which is placed at $683,000, will net the district $1,366. Tbarp has risen to tbe oooasion and demand for a moving picture show in Athena, and bis Dime Theater is crowded nightly with an appreciative audience. Mr Tbarp has installed a first-class machine and hispioturesare tbe best that oan be secured. Changes of program will take place ou Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings of each week. Tbe general admission is ten cents and sohool obildren nnder 12 years of age are admitted on Saturday and Sunday afternoons for 5 cents. We had oooasion to visit Weston recently and Joe weut along. Returning home the dog was missed, and later Riohard recovered him at Weston and brought him to the Press office. Mr. and Mrs. Hawks arrived in Athena Wednesday evening and went directly to their residence on Fourth street, where they will be at home to their friends after January 6tb. Feris, a rotninent farmer ot Weston mountain. has traded bis 200-acre mountain farm for 770 acres seven miles northwest of Walla Walla, paying the difference in the valuation of tbe two places. Mr. Ferris receives $10,000 for bis farm, aud pays $60 an aore for bis new possessions, 100 acres of the latter being alfalfa meadow and tho remain der wheat land, well improved.
