A million f unit treea have been planted in eastern Washington and eastern Oregon the last year, accord ing to nurserymen and orcbardists who are acquainted with the facts. Apple Layers bare beeu folly over tbe terri tory and state tbat everywhere can be soon young orchards, with tbo fall planting just about over. ' Tbe success of apple growers in tbe last two or three years baa ioduoed farmers everywhere to plant fruit trees, particularly apples, it being es timated tbat fully half of tbe trees planted tbis year were planted with tbe purpose of producing commercial apple orchards. About this section large plantiugs have been made. Tbe Blalock Fruit company, with 1500 acres of orobard already, planted 11, 000 apple trees tbis year, and num erous other concerns have planted from 2000 to B00O. One agent, who travels over eastern Washintgon only, sold this season 57,000 apple trees, in addition to tbe small orders of ornamental and otber fruit trees. lie bad to refuse an order of 0000 apple trees ot Rome Beauty variety because his bouse could not furnish tbe trees. It is said tbat every nursery in tbe entire district is sold out completely of all standard varieties of winter apples, especially those with etioug red coloring. It is said tbat every nursery in tbe northwest is increasing its plant and preparing . for a greatly increased business noxt year. Inasmuch as it takes two or three years to develop a frnit tree ready for planting in an orobard the enpply will not be greatly increase next year, tnt every effort will be made to sooure enlarged stocks at the earilest possible day. Every nursery has done neurly doable tbe business of last year with the closing of tbe season, and never have tbe ship ments cleared out tbe stock so com pletely.
