for 80,000 boxes of the growing crop,

will be good news to all trnit growing

These new stations are expected to do
the same for the development of
American forests as agricultural ex
periment stations have dono for tbe im
provement of the country's farms.

periment station bas already been es
tablished on tbe Coconino National
Forest in tbe Southwest, with head
quarters at Flagstaff, Arizona. Sta
tions in other National Forests will be
established later, and it is tbe intention
ultimately to have at least one experi
ment statiou in eaoh of tbesilvioultur
al regions of tbe West.
Tbe Missouri River Valley is one of
tbe most susooessf ul hog raising soo
tioua of the United States, aud corn
baa always been tbe basis of this in
dustry. Today one of tho most pop
ular stock-fattening foods in the Mis
souri River region is a mixture of
alfalfa meal and sugar beet pulp,
which is produced in Colorado. Ad

show that numerous new mills are Uo

Northwest should give this industry
every possible enoouraRement and this
is partioularyl true since tbe great
international concerns like Swift &
Co. and others bave deoidod to locate
upon the Paoido Coast, and they are
now spending million of dollars in
buildiug their plants at Portland. A
good reliable fattening food equal to
corn would make this seotion of tbe
United States the very richest portiou
of our great republic.
