SYNOPSIS OF DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM The democratic platform, adopted at Denver, is one of the longest plat forms ever adopted by a national con vention and contains about 15,000 words. It oovera every conceivable phase of national life and politics and reviews fully all of tbe issues before tbe peo ple. On account of a lack of space today tbe entire platform is not run, but tbe readers of tbe East Oregouian are given the following comprehensive synopsis of it and tbe full platform will be run later. Following is a synopsis under tbe different subjects treated by the platform : "Shall the people rule?" is over shadowing issue. Injunctions Attempt of representa tives to raise issue on attack of integ rity of courts resented. Congress should guard against abuse of jndioial process. Anti-injunction measure pass ed ty senate in 1896 should become a law. Injunctions should not issue in oases where thoy would not issue if no industrial disputes were involved. Labor Right of wage-earners to or ganize shonld not te abridged and snob organizations should not be regarded hh in restraint of trade. Eigbt-bour day, employers' liability and depart ment of labor, including mines, should be enacted. Tariff Tariff should be immediately leduoed. Ai tides competing with trust-controlled products should be free; materia reductions made on ueoessaries of life, especially snob as compete with American manufactures sold more cheaply abroad than at,otner schedules to restore tariff to revenue basis. Tariff on wood pulp, priut pa per, lumber, timber and logs should be immediately repealed. Abuse of Patronage Condoning President Eoosevolt for using federal machinery to force nomination of 'laft, thereby depriving the people of the right of selection. . Acts .not justified by good intentions. Publioity Plank Domands federal legislation terminating partnership be tween tbe corporations and tbe repub lican party; favors law making it fel ony for any offloer of any corporation to contribute or consent to tbe contri bution of money or anything of value to further tbe electiou of a president, vioe-president or any member of con gress. Centralized Government Opposes centralization implied in suggestions that tbe powers of the general govern ment should be extended to curb ex ploiting interests. Economy Denounces heedless waste of people's money by Roosevelt adminis tration ; pledges party to stop appalling waste of revenues; money squandered wrung from people by indirect taxa tion. Banking Panioofl007 shows uu willi ngness or inability of republican party to protect country against finan cial disturbances, causes sins of Wall street to te visited on whole people; condemns Aldrich bill as impairing security of depositors; favors law gov erning national bank deposits; favors postal savings banks only in case guar antee law cannot be passed and pro vided money deposited in postal banks be kept at borne and not indireotly turned over to Wall street. Rate Rpgulation Asserts right of courts to exercise oomplete control over interstate oommeroe and tbe right of each to exercise over oommeroe with in its borders; demands enlarged power for interstate commission giving it tbe initiative with referenoe to rates and charges; not interest rate to be lawful until approved by commission. Powers of Speaker Pledge party to make house ot representatives again tbe popular branch of tbe government and not tbe creature of one member. Army of Offioe-Holders Charges Roosevelt administration with building up a bureaucraoy by creating 99,319 new offices in six years; as dangerous as purchase of votes at polls. waterways xne national govern ment having ooutrol of all navigable waters, should improve its waterways to tbe fullest capacity: adoption of liberal and comprehensive plan fa vored ; indorses scheme to open Miss issippi from Great Lakes to Gulf. American Citizens Insist on full protection forU American citizens, native or naturalized, while traveling or sojourning abroad. Eleotion of Senators Favors elec tion of United States senators by di rect vote of the people. Latin Amerioa Recognizes impor tanoe and advisability of developing closer relations with Latin-American republios. Telegraphs and Telephones Pledges party to enact law to regulate tele graph and telephone rates through in terstate commerce commisssion. Civil Service Favors honest and rigid enforcement of civil servioe laws, without regard to party. Grazing Lands Favors leaving es tablishment of rules and regulations' for grazing lands in forest reserves to people of states in which such reserves lie. Arizona and Hew Mexioo Urges immediate admission of Arizona and New Mexico as separate states. Navy Declares for an adequate navy for coast defense and to protect citizens and their property in foreign lands. Asiatio Immigration Opposes ad mission of Asiatio immigrants who oannot be amalgamated into popula tion of United States. Oklahoma New state warmly wel comed to Union. Alaska and Porto Rico Demands for tbe territories all rights and privi leges oi a territorial lorm ot govern ment ; all offloials appointed to be res idents of territory. Hawaii Reaommends extension of land laws of United States to Hawsii. Merchant Marine Declares for up building of merobtmt marine without new burdens on people; subsidies op posed. Sometimes We Forget. "This is all tommyrot, tbe talk that we never had a. season like this be fore," said Elmer Snyder, to the Peu leton Tribune, "for there has never been a year in any oountry that was not like some other year. I remember the first summer I was in Umatilla county, 19 years ago, I worked in tbe harvest fields for 80 days and tbe best wheat we threshed anywhere was just north of Athena wbiob yielded 28 bushels to tbe acre. And I nave seen one or two other years as bad as this and several nearly so. I think my wheat will average 30 bushels this year and that isn't so bad. We can't expect tbe eortb every year and the crops Umatilla will produce this sum mer, under tne ciroumstanoes, are ahead of what any other part of the United States could do. So let's be thankful'for our luok, after all. Uma tilla is all right." Wheels Pass Over Body. A big piouio party given by tbe people who are connected with tbe Freewater Canuery was held up the Walla Walla river last Sunday. Coming home in the evening a young girl named Dot Campbell fell off the wagon and was dangerously injured by tbe wheels passing over her abdo men, sane lies in a very precarious state at tbe home of her mother. 1 A Democratic Mayor. Eugene Tausick, a democrat, was eleoted mayor of Walla Walla by a vote of 1104. MoKane tbe republican candidate, received 462 votes, Tausicks majority being 934.
