SYNOPSIS OF DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM

Sometimes We Forget.
"This is all tommyrot, tbe talk that
we never had a. season like this be
fore," said Elmer Snyder, to the Peu
leton Tribune, "for there has never
been a year in any oountry that was
not like some other year. I remember
the first summer I was in Umatilla
county, 19 years ago, I worked in tbe
harvest fields for 80 days and tbe best
wheat we threshed anywhere was just
north of Athena wbiob yielded 28
bushels to tbe acre. And I nave seen
one or two other years as bad as this
and several nearly so. I think my
wheat will average 30 bushels this
year and that isn't so bad. We can't
expect tbe eortb every year and the
crops Umatilla will produce this sum
mer, under tne ciroumstanoes, are
ahead of what any other part of the
United States could do. So let's be
thankful'for our luok, after all. Uma
tilla is all right."
