THE HEW CHAIRMAN Will M. Peterson of Democratic Cen tral Committee Voices Party Sentiment and Principle. -A Will M. Peterson, the well known uttoruey ia tbe newly elected chairman 01 me Democratic conuty central com tmUeoy" In a letter addressed to detn ooiatiof the connty, Mr. Peterson voices tbe sentiment and principles of too party as follows: The salotary principles of our pri maiy election law are meeting with tbe hparty approval of all parties, especi ally tbe great mass of tbe common peoplo. and tbe "boss," the "jobber," tbe "political trickster" in Oregon politics is notioeably getting to be a tbing of the past. An era of good, clean, wholesome government In which all of tbe people are at liberty to take an aotive part is now at onr service. Bat political parties are very essential, nnder onr system of governrreut, and democracy must continue to play its part; this is why,-at tbis time, in this county, we are seeking to have a genoral meeting of tbe varions committeemen and democrats in general on tbe aforesaid date. We must understand each other; must know wbere we are, and as long as I am ohairm an of the central com mittee no "jobs" shall fee prt np; no A SOUL Wl il IN FOUR PARTS. s By Rev. Israel Putnam. Part Third. Uncoufessed sin ia one of tbe most serious impedimenta in tbe way of Boui-winnlng. It burdens tbe con science, chills tbe heart, haunts the mind, of ends God cutting oS the com munication of Spiritual Power, not only disqualifying for winning souls, but often, eventually leads away from Christ altogether. Tbe army of Israel was not victorious nntil tbe sin of Achau bad been confessed. Bead Josb. 7, 19-26. Some are covering secret sins, try ing to bide unchristian tempers, nntil they are barren of spiritual usefulness. True there are certain legitimate aeo rots for individuals, families and na tions, some of which bad mnoh better be held than openly declared, against which I say nothing: "But be that coveretb bis sins shall not prosper," Pro v. 28, 13. A man, a prominent christian, one of tbe officials, took au active part in a revival in bis own Cbnrob. He said to another, "I do not understand wby I do not have more courage and power to speak to meu about their souls." That very day be Spirit of God smote bitu, and be confessed that onoe, when be bad old a quantity of grain be bad, been paid seveuty-Qve dollars too much, but said nothing about it ' X x - of strength. . It is never otherwise. Without unity there can be no real co operation, without both there oan be no real success in any enterprise, but especially so in Christian effort. In any community, where professed Christians will be of one mind and heart and soul in desiring a real revi val, and each one willing to do bis, or her, part, with right motives and for right ends and in tbe right spirit, following God-ordained methods, a real Bible revival is inevitable. But there can be no spirit of successful evangelism in a Church where feuds, baokbitings, biokerings and things ex aggerated and imagined exist Christ ian people of intelligence certainly ought to, and absolutely must, if they expect success in building np their Church, rise in nobleness of life above snob weak, harmful, Christless and degrading things. Please read Rom. 1, 29-80: Pea. 15, 1-8: Prov. 23, 23: 2 Cor. 12, 19 21 : Acts 23, S: Rom, 14, 16-17: 1 Cor. 10. 30-81: 2 Cor G. 8: Epb. 4, 80-32: 1-Tim. 6, 3-6: Titus 3, 2: Jas. 4, 11: 1 Pet 1-3 3.10,16: 4,3-4,14: Eph. 5, 19 20: 1 Tim. 5, 13: Lev. 19, 16 18: Prov. 18, 8: 20, 19: 26, 20. In a large wheat-field a little girl was lost. Tbe family searched in vain for ber. People came for miles to belp. ill nigbt they searohed and called, but tbe obild oould not be fonnd. ' They were divided into little parlies and companies some going one direo tion eome another, all missing ber, In tbe morning one said; "Now tbe ouua musi oe in mis neia. i-iet as join hands and all walk aoross togetb er." They did so. Two hundred people marched side by side, band in band, aoross the field and back, aoross and back, again and again, until after long earnest seeking tbey found the little one almost gone. Tbey took her to ber father's house, tut before the sun bad set she was no more on earth. Ab, wby did tbey not join bands be fore and tbe precious little life wonld bave been saved? 01 wby bave not intelligent Christ ian people, long ere now, ceased their divisions and cavilings and join bands and hearts to march aoross tbe dart, thorny, cloddy fields of sin, seeking tbe lost, astray iu tbe dark valleys, on tbe barren plains, and cold mountain peaks of human ignorance and sorrow? The pastor of a certain Churoh ap pointed a day for fasting and prayer for a revival. The morning and after noon meetings were for churoh mem bers only aad when all were in, as was often tbe oustom iu former times, tbe door was locked. The time was spent iu earnest humliation and confession before God and each other. On tbe fourth day as many were earnestly seeking and in tears over their short comings and over-reaohings, a knook was beard at tbe door and tbe pastor. on opeuing it, found several unsaved persous who had oome to cive them selves to Christ. That was tbe begin ning of a revival that swept, like fire over a prairie, the whole community. Let all men put away iniquity in hu mility and the Holy Spirit will work mightily.
