Service on tho Coos Bay railroad commenced last Saturday from Eu gene to the end of the line ten miles- down tho Siuslaw valley. Tho rate of faro is fixed at 4c a mile. Tho (Coquille .Commercial Club is back of a plan to colonize the logged oft" land in that vicinity. The Smith- Powers logging company has volun teercd to sell such lands at from $5 to $10 per acre, with easy tcrm3 to settlors who will clear the land. At the meeting of tho Coquille Com mercial Club last week, that body adopted resolutions against Coos county having a separate building at the Panama Pacific fair, and favor ing general exhibit in the regular Oregon budding. T. M. Wheeler of Portland last Thursday filed action in the Circuit Court at Coquille to foreclose a mort gage of $25,000 ngainst tho Seeley Anderson Logging company. This company is now in the hands ' of the receiver now, with Capt. SALE PROVES EF FICIENCY OF ADVERTISING. The opening hour of the Bandon Dry Goods Co.'s big removal sale last Saturday morning found the side walk in front of tho , store crowded with bargain seekers. A hurried call was put in by tho management for more help, ns th! number res ponding to the sale was greater than had been anticipated, and all day a steady stream rjf people poured in and out of the doors. The success of this sale is directly the result of the big advertising campaign carried oi by this store last week, and proves the falacy of that oft expressed opin ion that "people don't read the ads." The salo is continuing and there is an advertisement in this issue telling of new features connected with this sale. Read it. Don Gardner was over from Coos lay Monday looking after business. W. E. Geiscndorfer was a passen ger on the Fifiold Saturday night for San Francisco, where he will look after business nffairs. Claude Adams and wife arrived on the Elizabeth Sunday morning to vis it relatives in this city. Mr. Adams returned to San Francisco again thw morning, but Mrs. Adams will remain for a longer visit. Attornoy C. R. Wado was at Lang lois Friday where ho organized n cor poration known as tho Langlois Dairy Products Co. Tho new cor poration owns n cheese factory at Langlois, which they wdl operate and will probably take up other lines of dairy products in tho future. Last Saturday F. S. Perry bought the Jensen property on Fifth Street West, consisting of a house and sev en lots. He will probably erect some modern bungalows on tho property during tho summer. The deal was made by E. E. Oakcs, the real estate man. O. T. Tcaany of Salem has purchas ed the confectionery store of Misse3 Huntington and Kyle, and will con tinue the business at the same stand, and expects to greatly enlarge the stock. Misses Huntington and Kyle will leave in a day or two for San Francisco and will probably go east in tho near future. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Boylo are now located in Dallas, Texas, whero they expect to remain for some time. Mr. Boyle has the agency for tho state of Texas for an automobile gas silv er. Mr. and Mrs. Boylo have also been over to Jaurez, Old Mexico, where they saw the Mexican refugees and the prisoners of war. A. Haberly left on tho Elizabeth last night for San Francisco and from there will go to Kansas. Missouri and Illinois, whero ho will visit relatives, and will go to Chicago to attend the General Assembly of tho Presbyter ian church which moots in that city from May 21ut to UOth.
