We enjoy them while a certain fruit or vege table Is on the market, and then we must forget them for awhile. You may have a recipe for a peach shortcake that is perfection Itself. The actual shortcake may have brought you many words of praise from guests. But when Im portant guests arrive, with no ■peaches obtainable, that particular recipe is o f no use. It’s well to have a number of recipes for delicious dishes that may be prepared at any time — good all year 'round dishes. Then you are always readv to place a tested and tried dainty before your guests. Grape-Nut Rennet-Custard 2 cups milk (ordinary or homogenized) 1 pkg. vanilla rennet powder f t cup Grape-Nuts Cherry sauce Set out 4 or 5 individual dessert glasses. Warm milk slowly. stir- ring constantly. Test a drop on Inside of wrist frequently. When COMFORTABLY WARM. (120' F.) not hot, remove af once from stove. Stir rennet powder Into milk brisk ly until dissolved — not over one minute. Add Grape-Nuts and pour at once, v h ile still liquid, into the dessert glasses Do not move until firm — about 10 minutes. Chill in refrigerator. Serve with Cherry Sauce and garnish with whipped cream and candied citron, if de sired. Serves 4 or 5. Cherry Sauca Here's a recipe for a dessert that 14 cup butter la just as popular in January as it 2 tab!eip‘~-rs flot:- Is in June — with one for a cherry 1 cun red ( ' ■» sauce that is also an "all year 'round” possibility. This healthful rennet-custard •ert calls for no eggs. No t •r baking is necessary. E~ tor guests of any age, a.c Ucally perfect for a ttrty. at Mrs. I the bottom, lud been used at the ceiling. It did a poor job of spread ing lighting through the room with out contributing glare. N ow there's a cheerful diffusion of general illumination from a new indirect adaptor fixture and 150-watt silvcrcd-bowl bulb. This iixftre was screwed into the ceiling socket, like a bulb, in less time than it takes to veil. W ith modern lighting such as this the homemaker is less apt to make mistakes when reailing recipes. Vege tables are cleaned more quickly ami thoroughly. Food is seasoned more satisfactorily since the eyes can see the sait and pepper more sharply. The room becomes a lx tie. place in which to work. It thus fits right in with the needs of the horn- e co nomics student or o f any hom e maker . . . just as easy at px ner, Mo* 10‘iA |{ Classified Ad Rates First Insertion, per w o r d ...2 c Each additional, per w o r d ..l c (Minimum charge 25c) IN DESOTO,YOU GET S m a rt N e w R o cket B o d y — N ew Sh o ckless S te e r in g — a Sm ooth N e w M ira cle R id e l A ll the N e w e st, Fin est A u to m o b ile F e a tu re s A re Y o u rs. Telephone LTHOUGH window screen wire mesh is seldom painted. w‘ ■ n decoration Is desirable a very thin coating composed of 2 parts iby vol ume) soft paste white lead and 3 parts of an equal mixture of boiled linseed oil, spar varnish and turpen tine—either used white or tinted as desired with paste colors-in-oll— will provide the most variable, dur able finish. Brush and cross brush the paint on evenly from both sides of the i screen, after which tap the frame ! lightly to clear the wire of excess 1 paint which otherwise might remain ! to clog the pores. When the mesh Is sufficiently dry , for handling, paint the frame with pure white lead and oil according to the standard practice for exterior wood * C-.—Can shingle overwalling be ■ar plied to brick as well as wood s ding? A.—For restyling plus added In sulation or when brick walls are pausing trouble due to leakage and ynoisture absorption, overwall shin gles are the economical solution. ' First fasten vertical siding strips to the window frames and walls with 'hails—specially fashioned for the purpose— driven into the mortar lines between the h-lcks. To these verticals, attach horizon tal strips as a shingle nailing base. The latter should be installed with a center-to-center spacing equal to the proposed exposure surface of the shingles. Overwalling on all types of wood ¿siding Is comparatively simple, as Jth* shingles may be applied directly* as to new sheathing.
