How To Get Ration Book Number 4 Citizens of the valley will be issued the new ration book No. 4 next week beginning Tuesday, Oc tober 26th and continuing for Wednesday and Thursday, October 27th and 28th. The books will be issued from the following places. Those who live nearest to the registering places are requested to go there, but this is not mandatory: Selma Grade School Kerby High School Holland Hotel O'Brien Grade School. The schools and hotel will be open for registration between the hours of 4 and 8 p. nt. Please do not go there before 4 p. m., and don’t come after 8 p. m. The school teachers will handle the books and you can help the teach ers ami yourself by being patient and get the i ew blank« at the school houses and then fill in the names. The News office has a few blanks that will be t iven out anytime anyone calls for hem. For each person to be regis tered, the person doing the regis tering MUST bring along War Ration Book Three. All the facts needed to fill out the application will be the full names, ages, and sex of members of the family, OPA says. Consumers will not have to declare stocks on hand—either commercial or homecanned. Any member of the family can register for all. War Ration Book Four will be used beginning November 1 for processed foods, canned goods, and sugar. Green stamps A, B. and C (for processed foods and canned goods) will become valid November 1. and will remain valid through Decembei 20, 1943. Blue stamps X, Y, ami Z (for processed foods and canned goods) from Book Two are still valid and will remain so through November 20. Green stamps in Book four will be used in exactly the same way as the blue stamps in Book Two— the letters indicate the validity period, the numbers indicate the point values. On November 1, sugar «tamp number 29 also be comes valid and is good through January 15, 1944. Other stamps in Wai' Ration Book Four will not be used until a later date. The stamps in Book Four labeled "coffee” were print ed before coffee rationing was discontinued. -------------- o Eastern Star Chapter Initiates New Members • Western Star Chapter met last Tuesday evening for their October meeting with Worthy Matron Francis Smith, presiding. Following the regular business meeting Louise Hammer and Elva Messenger were initiated into the Order. Yearly donations for Department Child Welfare and Hospital Funds have been made and poppies ordered for next year. Donations were also made to the service men’s cigarette fund and to the War Chest. It seemed like old times with Pearl Martindale, Zenna Jennings and Marie White at the meeting. Pearl is here on a short visit from Utah and Zenna from Portland.
