Shrlners from all over Southern Oregon gathered at Ashland last Saturday, the occasion of a cere monial session and the escorting of a class of 17 novices across the burn ing sands; among the novices being Mayor H. C. Kinney, E. Dunbar and James H. Hall, of Grants Pass. The visitors were met at the de pot by Hillah's Arab patrol, officers and members, a water wagon and a true ship of the desert which had been secured from the Norris & Rowe herd of camels for the occasion. A procession formed with the Ash land concert band in the lead and Eugene A. Shlrwln in all the splen dor of Oriental silks mounted In state on the camel, with novices "hanging to the rope" in tow. Then followed officers in robes and mem bers In Turkish headgear, and from that time on until the small hours the Fez was a prominent feature of the landscape. The "Daughters of Allah" to the number of nearly 25, wives of the Shrlners, costumed and disguised for the occasion, sudden ly appeared in the ranks, making a decided hit. This was a feature not anticipated by the management. The work of Hillah officers and the Arab patrol was exceedingly good and the visitors were royally entertained. Among those who attended from Grants Pass were: G. W. Donnell, L. L. Jewell, Geo. II. Durham, A. C. Hough, Jose X. Nelson, A. E. Voorhles.
