When he started for the oflice he filled the pipe sgain and smoked it until he was out of the bouse. Then he put it carefully in its eaae and filled the old brier. It was not very hard for him to begin smoking that meerschaum again when he returned that evening. If it had lwen, Mis. Henmker'a delighted smile would have been compensation enough. Hut it was rather hard to have to smoke it in the hip armchair after dinner.
