Hood A Co. iiarry Peterson returned to Portland Thursday evening after spending a few days visiting with his many friends and acquaintances here and recording many well remembered scenes with his cam era. The crew of Friday morning's south bound freight (rain were seriously alarmed on reaching here to find one of their number missing, and for a time it was feared that some alarming accident might have hap;>ened. The missing man was found to be all right however, having merely been lelt behind at one of the stations. The marshal of Ashland had a pitched battle with a muscular hobo one eve ning last week. The errant gentleman persisted in going through the coaches of the stopping passenger train, and on the marshal’s attempting to eject bim from the train he vigorously resisted that officer, hitting him in the mouth and severely lacerating his lip. The marshal secured assistance, aud the hobo was overpowered after a lively struggle and conducted to the city jail. Experience Social.
