The Bandon Recorder thinks there must be a large number of old maids in Grams Pass, or that the Grant» Pass ladies wish to depart from the usual custom, as they advertised for a leap year ball on New Years night of 1900, which is not a leap year. Il W. Hulbert, formerly editor of the Georgetown, (Cal.) Gazette and who spent last year prospecting on Briggs creek in this county, speak» warmly of this section, and says, in lhe Gazette: There are rich mines in Southern Ore gon, and much prospecting going on.
