Next morning there was still a distance of 64 miles before we could reach Dawson, but when we were about 15 n ilea from Daw son, our scows caught fast on a sand-bar about four o'clock in the afternoon. We investigated to see how we could get ot! hut it was of no use, for the scows had so much ice on the bottom that they were completely frozen up.
