(ÍRAXTS PASS A Talk with Col. Charles F. Crockar, of tho Southern Pacific. CELEBRATION! Yesterday Col. Chas. F. Crocker, vice-president of the Southern Pa cific, went over the line of the Portland Ac Willamette Valiev rail way, returning from Elk R ,ek by team. Col. Crocker expressed him self much pleased with his com pany’s new purchase and with the thoroughness of construction. Ik- urged iiaste in finishing the line from Elk Rock to Portland. Soon after his return from Dun dee, Col. Crocker was interviewed by an Oregonian man relative to the future of the Oregon & California road. The Southern Pacific, lie said, would not take the actual management of the property untill thro igh rail connection was made. Construction work on both slopes of the Siskiyous is very heavy, and it is impossible to fix a dale when the lines would lie united, but thought the through line would lie completed about the middle of October. The main office of the company will, of course, lie in San Francisco, and general freight and passenger offices wilt be established here, and per- haps an assistant manager.
