The three-acre park is on Honeysuckle Loop and abuts property owned by High Life Adventures. The city owns additional property across the street from Forest Rim Park, but does not have a plan for it yet. Commissioners ap- proved the project in hopes of receiving a $3,500 grant from Pa- cific Power Foundation despite being early in the planning part of the development process. The grant must be sub- mitted by June 15 and include a cash match from city coffers. Several local contractors, including Mark Korpi and Terry Ferguson, have offered to help develop the park. Meanwhile, Murray and other city staff members are working to update the city- wide Parks Master Plan, a blueprint for development, maintenance and funding of Warrenton’s 13 parks and 10 miles of trails. Some of those “parks” are little more than green spaces, such as the median divider on Pacific Drive in Hammond. Warrenton didn’t even have a parks plan until 2010 and there is no separate ac- count to fund park mainte- nance. Murray developed an on- line parks survey and held an open house for resi- dents last year after the city learned maintenance and improvement of existing parks was more important to them than acquiring more park land. Warrenton’s population is expected to grow by 13 per- cent in the next decade. Today, the city has one part-time position devoted to park and trail mainte- nance, but needs at least two more full-time positions, according to recommenda- tions in the master plan. The plan is expected to come back to city commis- sioners for approval during the summer.
