T he C olumbia P ress Fairgrounds’ old sequoia tree dies, will be put to good use inside hall An iconic sequoia tree, one of three that sit in the middle of the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, has given up the ghost. Arbor Care Tree Special- ists determined the large sequoia should be re- moved, as it posed a hazard for those attending events at the fairgrounds. The two remaining cen- trally located sequoias are the largest on the property. Every measure was tak- en to save the tree when it was determined to be un- healthy a year ago, county officials said. It was taken down April 12. But its demise isn’t a total waste. The county plans to use the wood from the fallen tree to build a few projects, including a second bar for the exhibit hall.
