Under the current plan, there will be at least two en- trances to the property, one off Dolphin and one coming in from the east through a new subdivision being devel- oped just east of the poten- tial school site. This will have a connector to both 19th from the north and Willow to the east. The design concepts we have seen so far will go a long way to alleviating the issues we currently have around Warrenton Grade School regarding parking, student drop-off and buses. Working with our local partners, we are confident that children will be kept safe and that traffic will flow with limited impact. What’s the likelihood there will be a tsunami or other emergency that will affect the district’s two campuses? I’m not a seismic expert, however geological records indicate there have been sig- nificant tsunamis in the past and fairly consistent tectonic activity in the region in recent history. Our district facilities com- mittee and Board of Directors took this data into account to determine the size and scope of our phased development. How long will it take to build a new campus? Given current best practic- es from other districts across Oregon, it’s estimated that design and site prep will take 10 to 12 months and con- struction another 18 to 24 depending on a lot of factors such as contractor availabili- ty, weather and availability of materials. What will happen if the bond is rejected? Our Board of Directors will assess the results and get feedback from the communi- ty on why it did not pass. The $4 million in state funds will go to another dis- trict. Given enrollment projec- tions, our schools will in- crease beyond capacity, so the district will need to con- sider other options to address important maintenance, safe- ty improvements, and devel- opment outside the tsunami inundation zone.
