Commissioner decides to run for re-election Vice Mayor Rick Newton announced Tuesday that he plans to run for re-election to the Position 4 seat on the Warrenton City Commission. “I’m in,” he said in a phone call. He made a more formal announcement at Tuesday night’s commission meeting. Newton, 65, is the former owner of Warrenton Auto Parts, which he sold in 2017. It has since moved to Astoria. Mayor Henry Balensifer is running for another term at the city’s helm. He was ap- pointed by fellow commis- sioners after former Mayor Mark Kujala resigned. Those who plan to run for either seat have until Aug. 28 to declare their candidacy. Roadmap: A plan for success Continued from Page 1 got one,” Mayor Henry Bal- ensifer said. “We’re starting the planning for how we do that. The city is often focused on the Warrenton side of things. We want to ensure we include all neighborhoods.” With RDI’s help, groups of elected officials, residents and business leaders will form and develop a game plan. One group may focus on beautification, another on developing a theme or mar- keting strategy, for instance. And that’s where the un- tapped talent of residents comes in. All those interest- ed in making Warrenton a more vibrant community are encouraged to attend. “I’m really excited about the direction the city is go- ing,” Balensifer said. “It’s an exciting time to be in War- renton.”
