Scooter: Theft of cart a major crime Continued from Page 1 report. “The older male sub- ject raised his hand and said he did.” Heath told officers he didn’t intend to steal the scooter, but was borrowing it until af- ter his nap, when he planned to take it back to the store, ac- cording to the report. A records check on Heath showed he had a contempt of court warrant in Warrenton for failing to show up in court on a previous shoplifting of- fense. He also had two war- rants through Clatsop County Circuit Court. Heath was placed in hand- cuffs and taken to Clatsop County Jail, where he was booked for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, sec- ond-degree theft and another count of contempt of court. A Walmart employee re- trieved the scooter. Walmart security asked police to place the man on the list of those trespassed, or barred, from the store. Letters to the Editor Reunion story elicited memories What a pleasant surprise to see our picture on the front page! And what a lovely article you wrote about our ma- ny-class reunion. Both Brian and I and our siblings went to school with the Shepherd and the Vollmer children. And yes, Ginny was cor- rect to say that many stu- dents were related to one another. During my senior year, I was followed by my sister and three cousins in the ju- nior class and two cousins in the freshman class. I also wanted to point out a small error. My family didn’t move to Corvallis. I did, along with my sis- ter, Joyce, for my junior year of college at Oregon State University. I learned at a young age that big city life was not for me! Susan Jensen Walker Warrenton Consider volunteering at tourist center Do you look at the clock every morning and wonder, “Why do I have to get up”? If you do, volunteer with us at the Tourist Information Center and Warrenton Muse- um in the Ross and Rite Aid parking lot. We visit daily with lots of nice individuals from all over the states, Canada and Eu- rope. It’s important to know where Fort Stevens and Fort Clatsop are as well as the closest laundromats and the liquor stores. Our time is well spent visiting, drink- ing free coffee and eating free muffins. Just a little while ago, I visited with a man and his daughter from New Mexico. We talked about Billy the Kid, the Mariners and the College Baseball World Se- ries. If you are interested, we need volunteers for Thurs- day, Friday and Saturday (take your pick) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call Diane at 503- 861-2450 or Carol at 503- 861-1443.
