March 23, 2018 Obituary n orMan C. “B ud ” s hoop Warrenton Bud Shoop of Warrenton died March 3 in Lake Hava- su, Ariz. He was 96. Shoop worked at Penwalt Chemical plant in Portland. He was in the Army as a young man. Shoop was at Fort Stevens when it was shelled by the Japanese in 1942. He partici- pated in the al- lied invasion of Normandy on D-Day and at the Battle of the Bulge. He was based in Korea in the early 1950s and, while there, became a senior air mechanic. After doing repairs he would take a plane up to ensure it would fly correctly, even though he didn’t have a pilot’s license, said his daughter, Kathy Worthington. He was an avid hunter and fisher and, in his later years, learned to square dance. He was a member of Hayshak- er Square Dance Club and helped found the Coast Swingers in Garibaldi. He and his late wife, Vivian, were snowbirds, spending winters in Arizona and sum- mers in Warrenton. Shoop and his twin sister were the last of his seven brothers and sisters to be born and he was the last sib- ling to pass. He is survived by two sons, Norman J. of Salem and David C. of Vancouver, Wash; and a daughter, Kathy Worthington of Warrenton; and seven grand-children. At his request, no services will be held.
