Sports Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, October 31, 2018 B3 Nyssa overtakes Long Creek/Ukiah at Long Creek soccer field Long Creek/ Ukiah defeats Umatilla 7-1 By Angel Carpenter Blue Mountain Eagle Mathéo Buchart scored 5 goals in two recent games for Long Creek/Ukiah’s soccer team. With just 2 seconds left on the clock Oct. 18, Bucha- rt scored the only goal in his team’s 4-1 loss to Nyssa in Long Creek. He also had 4 goals in the team’s road win over Umatil- la with teammate Ben Combs contributing 2 goals and Mar- cel Kozhogvlov adding 1 goal for the 7-1 win. Long Creek/Ukiah head coach Amos Studtmann said his team started off with poor communication and a lack of rotation on defense in the first half against Nyssa but came out with a stronger second half. “I can see improvements in many of my players from the beginning of the season,” The Eagle/Angel Carpenter Long Creek/Ukiah’s Marcel Kozhogvlov works the ball away from Nyssa’s Roberto Amezquita (7) Oct. 18. Studtmann said. “Effort and improvement is what we’re looking for — that’s what we play for.” In the game in Umatilla, Studtmann said his team ran hard and put in some work for the win. “Umatilla is a JV team, but our kids still feel good about getting a win,” he said, adding Thomas Kreamier and Henry Grannis performed well. Long Creek/Ukiah lost their final game to Riverside 18-0 in Boardman. Studtmann said their oppo- nents made “amazing passes,” with Four Rivers,” Studtmann said. He said he enjoyed coach- ing his team and seeing major growth in some of the ath- letes. “It was encouraging to see how they build relationships with each other and worked hard in practice,” he said. and his team didn’t have the speed or overall experience to stop them.
