Monument/ Dayville tied it 22-22, then Grant Union pushed for the win with server Baylee Combs closing out the set. The Tigers were down in the middle of the fourth, when Tiger Aubrey Bowlus spiked the ball and her team- mate Kyla Emerson went on a six-serve run to narrow the gap 18-21. Monument/Day- ville came as close as 20-22, then Grant Union skipped ahead for a four-point win. “Monument/Dayville was scrappy,” said Grant Union coach Rhonda McCumber. “They played tough on of- fense and defense. We strug- gled at the beginning with their tips.” She said as the night con- tinued, her team improved on defending the Tiger tip. “We served tough all night,” she added. “Shaine Madden was on fire and Rylee Browning served well.” McCumber said she was proud of her team for going up against a varsity team and winning. “We won a lot of the long rallies, which is something we’ve been working on,” she added.
